1st Trimester

Waiting for 1st appt...

Hi Everyone! This is my first post as I just had a positive pregnancy test this weekend. It will be my first child with my boyfriend of 8 years. :) So now to my concern..

The first day of my last period was all the way back on November 15th.. but I took a hpt when I was in the ER for a UTI at the end of December and it was negative, and I took another one on January 14th and it was negative as well. I wasn't really having symptoms during that time but I started getting strong cramps around the time of my second test. Anyway, I took another test this past Saturday (the 4th) and it was positive. I had been having nausea, breast tenderness and cramps for about 2-3 weeks before it, so I had a strong feeling this one would be positive. Well I called today to schedule my first appointment and they can't get me in until the 27th :/ I'm just concerned that the negative tests in December and January were flukes and that I might be about 15 weeks already when I finally get to see the doc!  Since my symptoms didn't come on strong until the past couple of weeks I don't think so, but should I insist on getting in sooner because of the possibility? Wouldn't 15 weeks be really late to see the doc for the first time? By the way I don't have a history of missing periods, and I haven't had any spotting or bleeding at all since my last period in November. Thanks for any feedback!

  • False negatives are pretty rare.  Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it.

  • Could you call back and push for something earlier? Explain that you believe you're 15 weeks and would prefer to see someone sooner and that you don't feel comfortable waiting. 15 weeks would be pretty far along to see the OB for the first time but not unheard of. Although if you are that far along you are on the border if not already too late to have some prenatal testing such as an NT scan, so I'd be pushy if it were me. Goodluck, hope you get in asap.

  • If you were in the hospital and the test came out negative, I wouldn't worry about it.  If you are really worried about it, I would call back and explain your situation and see what they can do about it.  Good Luck!
