Evelyn-how to spell nickname Evie

My DH tossed out the name Evelyn about a year ago, and I have grown to love it, but I love the nickname Evie even more. My brother said that spelled "Evie" it looks like it should be pronounced Eve-y with a long E and not a short E like Evelyn. 

What do you think? Is there a better way to spell the nn Evie so that it has a short E sound, or is she just going to be explaining this the rest of her life?

I know a baby named Evi--pronounced eh-vee. I think that makes the pronunciation a little more clear.

My niece Evangelina is Evy.

At least that's what I see.

DH's Aunt is Evelyn and we all call her Evy.

Phonetically you would have to have two Vs to shorten the E. Such as Evvy.

I think either Evy or Evi work better.

The only  Evelyn I know goes by Evie, pronounced Eh-vie

We're naming our DD Evelyn with the NN of Evie - pronounced Eh-Vie.  With it being a NN, you can really do whatever you want with it IMO.
