Pregnant after IF

When do I need to start buying stuff?

Because I have bought nothing, not even a onesie. I think I have plenty of time, but I get nervous lurking on 2nd tri when women due more than a month after me already have their cribs ordered.

Re: When do I need to start buying stuff?

  • I dont plan to get any thing until after my shower at 32 weeks. I dont want to spend money when I dont need to... :o)

I think your doing fine! Goos Luck!

Started TTC in 2006, LOTS of trying, and trying, and 7 rounds of IVF with 13 embryos, 2 perfect little boys and 5 loses....
All finished with babies, started to make diet changes, Keto, to be MORE for my kids, lost 30 pounds, still going, and 3 months in, I had a natural cycle, and then ovulated... Hubs and I are going to see what happens now... Maybe a natural pregnancy? After everything we have been through? Or just a return to normal hormones? We shall see what the future holds!

  • I would start looking at furniture sooner than later.  Depending on the set you want, the color you want, etc. it can take anywhere from 6-24 weeks to come in.  (Based off of what we were told about varying sets that we were looking at.)  We were shocked...I'm not even half-way through this pregnancy and we were feeling like we were behind!  We ended up getting a set that we should have in 6-8 weeks (although a friend of ours got the same set as us and it took 11 weeks, but regardless it'll be plenty of time).

    GL and have fun!

  • Just keep in mind that furniture can take 12 weeks or more to come in depending on where you order it from. I had no clue it could take so long until my friend learned the hard way. Also, you may not feel up for doing much the bigger and more tired you get. My goal is to get as much done as soon as I can so I don't have it all hanging over my head when I'm huge. My husband is also disabled, so his ability to help with some things is limited which makes me more motivated to get things complete. I would recommend that you start looking at things to atleast get an idea of what you want. It may seem like you have a long time, but your little one will be here before you know it! Good luck!

  • My shower was a week ago (at 32 weeks).  I had clothes and bedding and that was about it.  My mom buys a lot of clothes.  I should say though that the crib and changing table are my nieces.

We moved the crib over to our house on Wednesday night and now that we've had a shower, we're pretty well set.  At 33 weeks I can say the nursery is pretty close to complete.  I stressed at first when I saw people at 24 weeks having the nursery done, but I don't see a reason to worry about it.  Lots of time! :)

  • We have bought a crib, dresser, bouncy chair and carseat because they were on sale big time. We will probably buy some clothes tomorrow after we find out the sex. But that is probably it for now. It is more than what we were planning on, but we got most items for 50% off and just couldn't pass it up. :)

  • The only reason I have any clothes yet is because one of my friends shipped me a box full of her girls' baby clothes as soon as we found out what we were having.

I did start buying some of the big stuff like the crib, changing table, and car seat, but that's because I'm not having a shower and we pretty much have to buy everything for ourselves, so I'm trying to space out the big purchases over the course of a few months so it doesn't all hit in one credit card statement.

  • Hmm, the wait time for furniture is certainly something to consider. We'll probably have a Pack N Play and we can use the bassinet in the beginning if needed.

  • There was also a post on babycenter the other day about the amount of toxic chemicals that off-gas from baby furniture and other items (crib mattresses are pretty bad culprits, as are pressed-wood products like cribs, changing tables, dressers). Might be another reason to get some of those things earlier on, and open the window to air it all out. Also a reason to paint well in advance! We're also getting big ticket items as we go (plus some of the small cute stuff for the aw factor) to spread out the financial pinch.

  • I found a children's & mommy-to-be consignment store near me for maternity clothes and have ended up buying a few newborn things in a neutral color because the prices were something I can't pass up.

Now that you mention it, I do remember reading about that elsewhere. That stuff is scary :(
