Rolling question

My son will be six months next week and he rolls front to back, sits up on his own and stands really well when we are holding his hands.  He hasn't, however, rolled back to front yet.

He HATES tummy time!

When i put him on his tummy he just rolls over.  I don't think he has any motivation to roll the other way because he hates being on his tummy, but I'm afraid this isn't a good thing?  He doesn't do many baby push ups either because of lack of tummy time.

Anyone else? Or any advice to encourage him to roll?

Re: Rolling question

  • When he is laying on his back, put some toys out to his side. Cross the farther leg over the closer leg (to the toys) to encourage him to roll on his side. He also needs to reach with his farther hand get his upper body in position to get from his side to his belly. You could even help him get used to it by tugging on the farther hand to get him to roll.

My DS rolls fom back to tummy, but never tummy to back.

No advice, but this is DD, too. She will do anything to get off her tummy. Loves to stand, sit, and roll off her tummy...no motivation to get from back to tummy.

  • Had our 6 month check up today - brought this up to the pediatrician. Our LO even sits up completely unassisted, but still doesn't roll back to tummy (only tummy to back). Pediatrician said it is harder to go back to tummy, not to worry, will get there. HTH
