I want to get them a couple of DVDs for learning. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have heard that Baby Genius and Baby Einstein are not that intersting and just show pictures. I would appreciate guidance.
U/S#1 showed 2 heartbeats!
U/S#2 showed Baby A's heartbeat was 157 and Baby B 's heartbeat was 183!
U/S#4 showed Baby A is a Boy (heartbeat 161) and Baby B is a Girl (heartbeat 159)!!
Re: Learning DVDs
Oh, I don't want anyone to get the impression that we are parents that throw their kids in front of the tv. We read to them every night. We have storybook time before bed. We are teaching them English, Hebrew and Portugese (as our au pair is from Brazil). I would just prefer to have educational programs on when we are driving or when we are cooking dinner, doing laundry, etc.
I feel ya.
I would probably try to put on an educational CD or something. I think They Might be Giants has a DVD, too -- it's just entertaining, educational songs but the animations aren't totally in your face (and they actually have a point!). The kids/infants I sat for loved them, even when they couldn't "understand" yet.
My girls loved Baby Signing Time. We only have volume one but they loved watching the babies and I loved that it helped us all to learn some signs to make communication a little easier.
My kiddos love Baby Einstein, especially First Signs (sign language) and First Moves (ie, clap your hands, stomp your feet, roll, crawl, jump, spin, etc). They've picked up a lot from those in particular.
I ordered Sesame Street's 40 Years of Sunny Days off Amazon and it's the best purchase I've made!
It's a collection of skits from 1960-2000, so a lot of the skits are the ones I grew up watching as a kid. Lots of counting songs, ABC songs, etc.. The girls get to watch that DVD when I'm getting dinner ready and they love it. Just the other day, A started singing the ABC song in a different tune and I thought it was funny....until I I heard the ABC song skit on Sesame Street a few days later and realized they do a jazz rendition! So the girls have definitlely picked up on it.
I read all the time to my kids too- but I hear you on needing something beneficial for them to watch while you get a couple things done.
