C-sections

The Aftermath

What kind of problems/issues have you had after your c-section? Scar pain, numbness, tingling? Stomach issues? Problems with your stomach muscles?

I'm just curious. I randomly get tingling in my abdominal a little numbness - is this common? Will it stop & when??.

My 6wk check up has turned into a 8wk check up due to overbooking. :(

Re: The Aftermath

  • numbness, tingling, itching, soreness.

I still have numbness 2 and 1 year later.  Never really comes all the way back fyi...your nerve endings have been cut..it gets much better but not all the way.  After about 2 months I start to feel less sore, tingly etc., but pain comes and goes through your menstrual cycles, etc. for a while  Severe pain, smelling from the incision or puss and blood from the incision is not normal.

  • I had numbness for about a year after DD was born, but it's all gone now.  I had some soreness for several months, it came and went.  I had crazy itching for several months, but in my case it was from the nerves growing back together.  At first it would itch where I was numb, which was the strangest sensation ever!  But gradually the itching faded and normal sensation came back.  Now 18 months out I have some discomfort during PMS, but that's it for me.  GL!
  • I've had two c-sections (and my third is on the 15th!) but my scar never really regained feeling fully. Its still pretty numb and feels weird to touch it, not uncomfortable but definitely not totally normal. It does itch from time to time and it did itch when it was healing but nothing too bad.

  • 12 months PP and I still have numbness but it is more concentrated to right over the scar versus an inch or two above and below the incision. I do not remember tingling but obviously a ton of pain and I had absolutely no use of my abdominal muscles. As things started to heal I had some itching as well. Even now, though, I have itching where my scar is numb- totally weird and annoying since I can't itch it!

  • I can't remember itching with the c/s at all.  My abdomen is still sore, the incision feels more irritated sometimes, I have hard lumps right above the incision which I guess is scar tissue.  No tingling either, but everything was numb is still numb.

  • My stomach around the incision was numb for about a year, but I never had itching or pain or anything else.

However, I suffered from terrible back pain because of my weakened stomach muscles.  This time I'm going to work on regaining core muscles as soon as I'm allowed do so.

  • Itching and Soreness. The soreness went away around 7 or 8 weeks pp for me. Although my c/s scar still itches on occasion.

  • After my first c/s my scar healed as a keloid so that really bothered me with the itchiness. My OB took the keloid out during my 2nd c/s and my incision has healed up normally with no keloid - thank goodness. My biggest issue thus far (2 weeks post-op) is the extra stomach skin I have (most is residual from massive pre-e weight gain first pregnancy) and the stretch marks across that section of skin hurt to the touch, especially when rubbed by fabric. I also have no control whatsoever over that pooch of skin so I'm hoping that some core muscle exercises will help resolve that.
  • I got an infection. Yuck Angry

If your discharge smells like a dead animal, chances are you have an infection. They had to re-open the incision & drain it. Then I got to have a nurse come (I think it was once a week, but I honestly can't remember) to change the packing.
