Trying to Get Pregnant

What do you ladies do to relieve frustration and relax?

Work has been a beast lately for both my husband and I. The past cycle our timing sucked (I could not muster enough give a damn to do anything) and this cycle my temping has been shot by my erratic sleep patterns and GI issues.

I was wondering what everyone does here to release tension/frustration and if anyone has an relaxation techniques.   Not that I think relaxing will make me pregnant.  I would like to survive this postdoc with minimal damage to my body and mind.

  • For me, it's the gym.  I work full-time, go to law school five nights a week, study 12 hours a day on the weekends and have an eight-year old son.  Whether it's running or lifting weights, it's time for myself, relieves tension, and relaxes me.  Otherwise, it's a glass of wine and a movie on Saturday night.
  • I workout.  If that doesn't cut it, I drink.  Doesn't help that Ft. Collins is home to some fab breweries.

  • I love yoga and hot baths. Especially the stress relieving yoga video I really want to take a class soon. Also shopping, not the best way but sometimes it just helps get my mind off everything. I use to paint as well and I really want to get back into it.

  • Thanks ladies!  I really do need to get back to exercising regularly.  Sex at all ( last month was 2 times in 26 days) would help both of us I think.  I probably could use a good drink too.

    Oh yeahhhh....

    And wine...

  • I always wrote off yoga as New Age-y BS, but I'm a total convert these last couple months. That and a good cardio workout a few nights a week usually does the trick for me.

I'd rather not say, on the very small chance someone might recognize, but not too far from you!  Hope that doesn't sound snotty. :)

  • Crank up music and dance around and sing at the top of my lungs. Wears me out and I get to yell so it feels good.

Pretty much this.  Also, sometimes I just need to let it out... when I've reached my breaking point, I just need to talk through all the thoughts and options that are whirling through my head - my poor husband gets to deal with me then

Thanks!  I joined a book club which is a group of postdoc women here and I am looking forward to it.  I have not read anything except Harry potter for pleasure since I started graduate school.  I need to get a exercise routine that  is flexible enough to go with my crazy work schedule.

What was your dissertation on, if I may ask?
