Sunshine Radian carseat anyone?

so i met someone here who has the same care as us (the Volvo X90) and she has to infant carseats and the Radian carseat for her 3 year old (same scenario as i will have in a couple months) all fit into the second row of the X90...this gives me some hope.  I was wondering if anyone else had this Radian carseat and what do you think of it.  ...the price doesnt bother me.

  • Love love love them! Oh, and the boys do too. We have the XTSLs, rear-facing to 45lbs and forward-facing to 80lbs, super comfy, very easy to get the boys into and out of them (but the buckles are tough enough that the boys can't get themselves out of them). If I could do it all over again, I would totally still buy them.

  • We plan to get one for DS once the twins arrive to fit 2 across in our Durango and Pathfinder.

  • We have a radian and two graci infant seats across the second row of our MDX and it fits great! Before the twins DS had a britax marathon and honestly I like the radian better. It is closer to the seat so I don't have to lift him up to get in it and he thinks it is more comfortable.
  • FYI, Sunshine Kids has changed their name to Diono, so you'll find them under the Diono brand.

We bought these for our boys once they outgrow their infant seats (which is going to be sooner than I'd like!)  We haven't installed them or used them yet, but I will say that they are SO much thinner than anything else I've seen.  My only concern is that they are really tall, and they will be hard to get into my Honda CR-V rear-facing.

I love the safety features and that this will be the last car seats we have to buy, since they convert to boosters.

  • We have one for my older son and love it. I plan to get 3 of them for the trio for when they need them.

  • we have 3 of them across the back of my minivan and LOVE them. Easy to adjust, rarely get tangled, etc... and they go rear facing to a higher weight than most- and i have the 80's, so they go up to 80lbs which is awesome- b/c i want my boys in 5-pt harnesses as long as possible.

you can fit 3 seats across the back of almost any car- you just need to use the seatbelt to install - not the latch. Latch pulls the seats towards the middle and wastes space on the sides.  We have 3 seats across the back of Dh's Escape (which is NOT big) and have never had problems using the seatbelt install... we had 2 infant seats + convertible seat, then 2 rear facing convertibles + one forward... and now 3 forward... and they aren't radians or anything special/thin... the infant seats were Snugrides and the convertibles are the Cosco Scerenas (or however you spell it)

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

this is good info bc the MDX is somewhat similar to the X90.  yeah, all i do is read great things about this carseat. i ordered one this morning : )

and PP- yes, i noticed the brand name change...  confused me for a second but then i figured it out.

  • its Diono now not Sunshine Kids.  We love our radians but since they changed Names they have also changed the seat a little bit.  It basically is the same, but I have no experience with the new kind.

I have xtsl's  and my girls are extremely long...so it has worked out very well.

  • Love ours.  We have the XTSL's.  I can squeeze in the middle of the two seats in the back of our Prius to keep DD's happy during car rides.  I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again.

  • I love ours. The boys love them. DH basically hates them. We have a Ford Excursion and even though it's the largest vehicle made, we still have to slide the front seats a bit forward to get the seats at the proper angle. The seats are very tall- great since our LOs are 98th % height- but DH is 6'7" and very resentful about having to lose legroom!!

  • We are very happy with our Sunshine Radians.  I drive a Honda Odyssey with 5 carseats - I have 2 kids & nanny for 3 kids (and I'm pregnant with twins so we'll be switching to a Nissan NV 35000.  I have the 3 "big" kids (4, 3, 3) in the back row in Sunshine Radians.  They are always very comfortable & we have a nice, snug installation after a few tips from the saferty experts.  When I switch to the Nissan NV 3500, I'll have 5 kids in Sunshine Radians (and the 2 babies will be in their buckets!)
