I just scheduled my repeat CS for Feb 22nd and my doc said she is thinking of using staples b/c the incision drains better with them and thus less chance of infection. Last time I had a diff doc and had stitches. The incision opened up and I had to have nurse service come for a week to my house to pack it. I generally don't heal super quick from surgeries. I'm really unsure now. I thought I def preferred stitches but this draining thing scares me now. Anyone have any advise?

Re: RCS and staples
I didn't want staples, so I asked for dissolvable stitches for my planned C-section. I didn't have any problems. Everything healed up fine.
For me, dissolvable stitches are the only way to go.

For my first I had staples and got an infection. It took 6 weeks for the incision to close back up. It was nasty. My scar is not pretty.
This time I have a different doc who will be using stitches. Hoping for better results.
You're going to get a wide variety of answers for this one. I hated the staples I got from my unplanned c/s with DS. Generally metal kinda bothers my skin anyways, like earrnings, even real gold, will itch after a while and I have an eyebrow piercing that rejected twice. My staples were incredibly itchy, some of them oozes. When I had them taken out 6 days later my MW put me on antibiotics because half the holes were swollen and red and she suspected an infection under the skin. I had to go back another 10 days later after the removal to have them checked again. By then the holes were okay, still itchy, and occasionally oozy and crusty. Overall it healed well and never reopened. It was the staple holes themselves that I had trouble with.

My OB uses staples for the same reason that yours stated. I'm sure that if I had asked for something else, especially if it had to do with reactions to metals, that she would have done it. My incision healed perfectly, never reopened or oozed and is pretty much invisible as far as color goes. If it wasn't for my c-section shelf and twin skin you wouldn't even know exactly where it is.
Definitwly talk to your OB about your reaction to metals and slow healing. I'm sure she'll find something that will work for you.
