I went to my OB this week because of off and on light spotting for 2 weeks. After an ultrasound, hearing the heartbeat and an internal exam she explained I have a friable cerivx. Has anyone ever dealt with this before?
I had to look it up, but it sounds like it just means your cervix is more prone to bleeding, but not a threat to the pregnancy. It seems to be cause mainly by STDs though, so that may need to be addressed.
I had a pap smear at my 8 wk appt. I actually saw a lot more blood from the actual pap itself (more than non-preg pap) .. It looked like there was a gush when she scraped the cervix for the sample, she even apologized because she said she made a mess.
My OB explained that early pregnancy causes the cervix to be very friable (nothing to do with STDs in this case)

When i went to my OB 2 wks ago for some spotting, he also mentioned that to me. It just means your cervix is easily irritated and prone to bleeding from the increased blood volume. Its nothing to be concerned about.
Re: Friable Cervix
I know 100% it isn't caused by an STD or infection. Just wondering more if someone had this how long it took to resolve.
