Baby Names

Polish names

Hey,

I'm looking for a Polish name for a boy that is said and spelled so that Americans can understand, but still a Polish name . For example, we have a girl name picked and it is Kira (so its a Polish name, spelled the Polish way, but americans can easily say/spell it too).

Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Polish names

  • Do you mean more like Walter, and less like Sigismund?

If Marek is Polish I vote for that!

Kira- very pretty name but being born and raised in Poland I have never ever heard of this name. Sounds Sanskrit to me.

  • I asked this once (well, for boys and girls names) here. Definitely check out this list of Polish names.

  • Well Kira is English say www.babynames.com. The only boy name that is easy to say is Zale.

  • According to Behindthename.com, Kira is English or Russian, not Polish.

For boys I like Adam, August, Damian, Daniel, Edmund, Kasper, Konrad, Leon, Marek.

  • Be aware that the Polish pronunciation of Marek is not Merrick but Mah-rehk. No use in naming him a name you and the whole country will butcher.
  • I love Marek!  And if Sebastian is Polish, that gets my vote, it is in my top 3!

  • My son has a polish name, Jarek. So there's my vote! Smile I'm glad someone else suggested it with other polish names. Alot of people think it's a name I made up and spelled weird. I also really like Marek. Yah polish names!! I'm glad you're thinking of using one.

  • Marek is Mark in Polish, and no one can pronounce it correctly here (it's my brothers's name). It's pronounced Mah-rek, and he gets Merrick. Sebastian, Edward, Benjamin, Aleksander, Feliks, Kasper, Michal, Patryk, Roman would all work.

And yeah, I haven't heard of Kira as a Polish name, but because of the way it's spelled it can easily be pronounced in Polish.
