Roch Mamas - activities?

Once LO #2 arrives, I am planning to go down to part time at work. We live on the west side, but are not native Rochesterians, so I am looking for some input. I would love to start establishing some fun places for us to visit, but we are not super familiar with all the cool activities and stuff around us. Anyone have any suggestions? Free is always a plus...

Re: Roch Mamas - activities?

  • Dd and I hit up about 15 different playgrounds this fall. Basically every elementary school has one plus the local parks. There is Springdale farm in spencerport/brockport area that is awesome. We will be living at Seabreeze once it opens - kids 2 and under are free, and if you go 3 times your season pass is paid for.
  • Loading the player...
  • Kids out and about is a great resource too. I will link it for you when I'm on my laptop
  • We love Springdale! I find all the cool fun stuff is on the East side, boo! lol

I love the fish hatchery in Perinton, it's free or .25 to feed the fish. Powers Farm Market in Pittsford/ER rocks, again .25 to feed animals and they have cool Halloween activities.

Chili library has a great kids room and story time. The Sandbox in Fairport is fun for smaller kids and less than $7 I think.

Here is the link for Kids out and about, it is a great resource!

The play place at Marketplace Mall is fun on a rainy or snowy day. Area playgrounds are great on nice days.

I was looking into this.....will you take the kids alone? I am just wondering how this will work for the water stuff.

  • Ya, I'll have to. Dh Doesn't do amusement parks. Occasionally my mom and I will go together, but bc she helps watch dd (and ds now) our days off don't usually line up. I'm planning on having ds in the moby or ergo and just sticking to the kiddie section. Dd loves the adult water slides, but I will only be able to take her on those if my mom is with me. The wave pool I may be able to do if its not too crowded and just make dd wear the puddle jumper for extra safety.
  • We live at the Y in the winter months. We've done the bounce it out and the play area at the Marketplace mall is pretty nice too.

In the nicer weather, I like taking B to the duck pond at the zoo. It's not part of the zoo, its free and hundreds of ducks. She will spend over an hour feeding them. It's free b/c it's not technically part of the zoo it's just on zoo grounds. The Pineway Ponds spraypark in spencerport is really nice too. It's free. Henrietta town park and the Ogden Town Parks are great b/c they have a small kids area.

  • We should try to do some kind of meetup! I know it was mentioned before, but I think it would be so much fun!

If I get passes I would totally be up for a playdate there!

I would love to do this, once we are out and about after LO2! Thanks for all the help ladies, when you aren't as familiar with the area, you don't know all the good playgrounds and stuff haha

  • We spend a ton of time at the library and B&N has awesome story hours- both free.  We also hit up area playgrounds when the weather is decent (although this winter has been nuts so we've been frequenting both our neighborhood ones).  I also have a membership to the Lamberton Conservatory in Highland Park- it's only $10/year for adults and kids under 6 are free.  Eva loves watching the koi, tortoises and turtles they have there and wandering among all the cool plants.  It's so peaceful!

  • This post makes me even more jealous of those of you living in Roch.  I was alrady jealous of you having a much more awesome zoo, the SNMOP, Seabreeze and the RMSC.  We don't have nearly that many cool places in Syr.
