Your CM *should* reflect how fertile you are, but it's nowhere near as dependable for pinpointing your O as temping. I've had less fertile CM throughout a whole cycle. If I wasn't temping, I'd be unsure that I was ovulating.
It does help with interpreting a wonky temp pattern though.
I've been charting just my temp and I've gotten great results detecting O. I just recently started trying to chart CM as well and its been hit or miss for me.
* don't look at my chart, its a disaster. I've been so lazy with it.
I us CM as a secondary fertility sign, but don't always remember to enter it in my FF chart. You should still be able to determine when you've ovulated without that info, though.
I will say, however, I find that checking my CM really helps me narrow down my fertile window since I usually notice EWCM a few days before I ovulate.
