Were you put on bed rest?

Hello, I went to my 21w6d dr's appt and she put me on bed rest until I deliver. The reason is placenta previa, velamentous cord insertion, and a fibroid. I am not bleeding, just feel a little bit of pressure. She said no cooking, sex, cleaning, driving, actually only driving to my ultrasounds. Was anyone put on bed rest for the same reasons? My husband is out the whole day and I'm making my breakfast and lunch since I got no one to do it for me, I wonder if this is ok.

Re: Were you put on bed rest?

  • I was put on bedrest around that time but for shortening cervix. I did the same as you--made myself lunch and breakfast and then I slowly started doign more and more around the house b/c I was bored. I wish I never did that b/c I ended up in the hospital on bedrest for a month b/c my cervix kept shrinking. When they let me go home from the hospital at 32w, DH brought me all my meals. At the start of the day, DH would bring me a huge cooler full of food, including breakfast, a lunch sandwich, snacks, a milkshake, etc. so I didn't have to get out of bed for anything. With all that help, I ended up making it to 36w4d (and could have gone longer except my blood pressure was on the rise).

So, moral of the story, take it as easy as possible. Ask your DH for help so it minimizes any work you need to do. Good luck! Best rest sucks, but you can do it!

  • I was put on bed rest at 31 or 32 weeks but not for the same reason. I was put on mild bed rest because of my horrible swelling to prevent pre-eclampsia. I ended up getting in a car accident at 36 weeks which put me into labor but I had 2 healthy boys!

  • I was put on bed rest at 16 weeks for placenta previa. I had bleeding because of the previa & that's what landed me on bed rest. At 19 weeks the bleeding had stopped and my bed rest was lifted, but I was still on pelvic rest and limited activity. At 26 weeks I was put back on bed rest until I delivered at 34 weeks due to PTL.

bed rest means different things to different doctors. I would talk to your doc & see what you are allowed to do. I was allowed to fix myself small meals, shower (quickly) daily, and sit up. Good luck! Bed rest was hard! The best advice I got was to make a schedule everyday, time to read, computer time, meal times, etc. Otherwise I would just spend my days watching tv and feeling sorry for myself;) I also did a ton of online shopping for the babies, that really helped me feel like I was preparing for their arrival and made me feel like a "normal" mom to be.

  • I was sent to L&D at 27 weeks after my cervix had shortened in 2 weeks from 3.8 to 1.8 and during a NST there were contractions every 2-3 mins that I couldn't feel. After 4 days in L&D I was still at 1cm so I was sent home to bed rest. I do a little bit here and there around the house, but haven't been back to the MFM since the 27 wk appt to know if my cervix has stayed the same or not.. My next MFM appt is now next Wednesday.
