It has become unbearable to sleep on my left side due to increasing pain and painful tingles... which is the only side I CAN sleep on!!! Crying Does anyone else out there have this condition? If so... what are you doing to stay comfortable while sleeping?

Re: Meralgia paresthetica... Anyone else have this???

  • When I am sleeping/laying on my left side, my thigh will sometimes go numb.  When it gets uncomfortable enough I switch sides.  But it doesn't happen every time I lay on my left side.  I have mentioned it to my doctor, but was never told what it was called, he just said change positions.  I do have pillows on either side of me, so I sleep with my one leg bent and semi on my belly to make it more comfortable.  Maybe that would help?  Sorry you are having such trouble sleeping!

  • Oh god, I am so sorry. I've fought this for years and luckily over the past few years it's dwindled for some reason. I've been to a chiropractor, pt, tried a TENS unit, pain meds, everything, and nothing helped. I would freak DH out waking up screaming bloody murder in the middle of the night because it felt like a knife was stabbing me in the thigh. I still have some painful tingling, but that compared to the stabbing pains is at least tolerable.

Why can you only sleep on your left side though?!? Sleep however you can. The "pg women should only sleep on their left sides" is complete b.s. That's coming from my OB, not just me. :)

Thanks for your understanding!!! I can only sleep on my left side personally because when I sleep on my right side, I can feel my heart pumping in my throat. And sleeping propped up doesn't really help the leg tingling either. It is a crappy side effect of pregnancy for sure. I didn't realize so few bumpies would be aware of this condition. I have read too that it may not go away after the baby is born either. Not liking this at all Crying

Do you have a recliner? I've found having a recliner where I can adjust my position has helped.
