My LO was a preemie he is now 2 years old. He has chronic lung disease, asthma, and BPD. He has been on thickened liquids since birth till October of 2011 and now recently he has been chocking every time he drinks and even chocking some on foods. This week he has woken up several times at night and his breathing sounds rough or wet sounding. I'm concerned he needs to be on thickener again and that he may have fluid in his lungs and may be getting sick because of it. I'm not sure what to do? Call his pediatrician, call his Pulmonologist, call the therapist who did food therapy with him or wait it out a little longer? I hope I am wrong I don't want him to have to go back on thickener. But if I'm right I don't want this to get bad before we see someone about it.
Re: Concerned about fluid in the lungs
Does he still see his pulmonologist regularly? If so, call them. Anytime we have a cold, cough or resp. issue, we go straight to our pulmonologist and completely bypass our pedi. (She's okay with it.) The way I see it, that's his specialty and my pedi is going to send us to him anyway, so I go straight to the source.
I hope it's nothing major with your little one and that everything resolves quickly.
I don't have any advice, but didn't you have a friend deliver at 22-23 weeks a few months ago? I hadn't seen any updates lately and I was just wondering how she and baby are doing?
