  • 8 days. It was as long as I could stand it. I had too many places to go. (4 kids, hardworking husband) But I know I'm in the minority here. I felt great after 4-5 days.

  • I was cleared to drive at 2 weeks, but it was still painful for me due to complications (my incision opened up again).

  • I don't really remember the time frame, but I was told if I could stomp on the brakes as hard and fast as possible and fully turn in my seat to see out the side window, then I could drive.  So, I practiced in my driveway and then left baby with DH and drove around the block a few times to make sure I was good.

  • 4 days. DD needed a jaundice check, and my doctor had no issues as long as I was off pain meds and passed a reflex check.

  • day 5. No one told me I wasn't supposed to drive until later, by which point it was too late. Oh well. I felt perfectly fine driving.

  • First time it was two weeks but the 2nd time it was around day 8-9. My OB says if you are off the drugs for 24 hours you can drive.

  • I waited 4 weeks, but that was because DH was home a lot the first month and he almost always drives when we are together. Nowhere I had to really go on my own at that point.  I really don't understand the rush. I enjoyed those few weeks.

  • A few weeks later, but that was only because someone just happened to go with me everywhere until then.  I drove DD to a drs appt alone about 3 weeks out.  My dr said I could drive as soon as I stopped the pain pills.  I could've driven myself home from the hospital if it weren't for needing the pain meds.

  • I waited the 2 weeks I was told to. I felt great and wanted to get out of the house too but I had DH drive me, if he was home, or a friend if he was not. I was out of the house running errands and things at 3 days pp. I just had DH drive me and wait in the car.

That's also what I was told :)  I didn't drive for about 2 weeks...DH was off of work and my parents were staying with us, so I didn't need to drive.

ditto this. the first time i drove was just past the 2 week mark. no way would i have been able to stomp on the breaks/turn before then.

So did I. I wasn't about to try driving though. You just had abdominal surgery- you aren't going to be physically able to respond the way you would have before.

If you had any other kind of surgery, would you deliberately go against doctors orders when it could endanger others?

Are you really lecturing me? I'm not stupid, my doctor told me I could and I endangered no one. Thanks, though.

  • 12 days after #1, two weeks after #2.  I think I could have driven sooner both times but waited until I had somewhere I needed to go (DD) or was cleared to drive (DS, was never given restrictions with DD).

  • Three weeks. My dh was off from work so I did not do any driving while he was home.

After many years and tears our baby boy is finally here
