Trying to Get Pregnant

did she really just say that?

I've very briefly talked to my mom about the fact that DH are ready for baby #2, but my cycle has been all out of whack.  I was an accident (my mom was still on BCP), and it took them 18 months to get pregnant with my sister.  So I figured she'd at least be a shoulder to lean on if nothing else.

We were shopping in Victoria's Secret because she needed new underwear or something.  I was casually browsing the lingerie, because what else are you supposed to do right?  She asked me if I needed any of it.  I sort of snorted and said no I was good.  Her response?   "Maybe if you did buy some I'd get my next grandbaby faster."

Excuse me, what?  I love my mother, and I'm sure she was just trying to be funny, it was said in a joking/sarcastic tone.  But seriously?  I'm pretty sure the problem is not related to if my husband has any interest in me, thankyouverymuch.

Vent over.  Thanks.

And I think I told you before, but I love your DD's name. If you already knew that, I'm sorry for the repetition. Wink

  • At dinner one night my Aunts friend said to my Husband and I "You obviously aren't trying hard enough.." WTH how would you know how hard we are trying!! I don't think people realize what they are saying until it comes out!!

I hope your cycles get back to normal soon!!

  • Sorry that it bothered you, I'm sure she didn't mean for it to.  If she knows that you are TTC that might just be her way of making a joke about it rather than serious conversation.  Moms try to be there for you, they have good intentions..

By the way, that picture of your LO is adorable!

  • That sucks, I'm sorry.  I would have made her pay for some undies to make up for her rude comment.

  • Aww, I'm sorry... I'm sure she didn't really think about the way it would sound when it came out.

This reminds me of something that happened over the holidays.  My bro and SIL aren't trying yet, but when she came into the kitchen in her pajamas on morning, her mom asked her something to the effect of "Do you wear those pajamas a lot?" and when she said that she did her mom just muttered "Great, now I know I'm never getting grandchildren..."
My bro and SIL thought it was really funny, actually.  But, since we're actively TTC, I completely cringed when I heard the story.  I wouldn't have found it funny at all...

Even if you already said it, it is still nice to hear.  :)

And in general, yes, like I said she used a sarcastic/funny tone.  I'm definitely not holding a grudge or anything.  Just more a, REALLY MOM?  Did you just go there?  No worries.  I'll get over it.

  • Aww hopefully she was just trying to be funny and the tone came out wrong.
  • Late to the game, but my mom said something similar to me the other day.  We were going to watch the Downton Abbey season premiere together so I brought PJs and popcorn and was ready to get comfy when my mom says "Wow, poor DH.  Is that what you wear around him?  No wonder..."

Yes mom, what I wear to watch PBS with you is exactly what I wear to get DH in the mood.  Good call.

  • Definitely not appropriate for her to say that, but I would have taken advantage of it and made her feel guilty and buy me some expensive victoria secret lingerie!
