TTC After a Loss

EWCM but a negative OPK.

I know, I know... you can get EWCM at random times during your cycle. I know.

But my CM pattern has been spot on for me the last few days - several days of creamy, then getting more watery, then watery with a bit of stretch, and now full blown EWCM today. This is my first cycle using OPKs regularly, but I feel pretty experienced with charting temps and CM. If it were any other cycle, I would fully be expecting a temp dip tomorrow, followed by a rise on Saturday. I just KNOW, I must be about to O tomorrow, yet the negative OPK is throwing me off.

It wasn't even a borderline negative - it was like extra super duper negative.

I have been testing twice a day to not miss my surge, especially since I have no idea whether I have a short or long surge. Is it too much to hold out hope for a positive OPK this evening? I have read up on POAS.com and know that not everyone gets a fade-in, but it seems unlikely to me that I would go from stark negative to - BAM, positive. But I am a total OPK newbie, too. Anyone have any wisdom, anecdotes or experience to share?

I know, I know, when in doubt...

I'm just frustrated. Thanks for letting me vent.

Re: EWCM but a negative OPK.

  • These post-MC cycles are the worst, huh?  I would test again tonight.  Also, be sure you're not using FMU for the OPKs if you're using wondfos.  I usually try to test around 10:30 AM then when I get home from work, around 6:30 PM or so.  But I would say if the CM is most fertile then you know what you need to do!!

  • I had EWCM for about 5 days prior to my positive (first time using OPK)  I was starting to lose hope and figured I'd missed it.  I got a negative on Saturday night and then it was positive Sunday morning around 10:30 (CD14 for me).  Don't lose hope, it's coming!
  • I am currently going through the same thing right now. Small amounts of EWCM but negative OPK. I am keeping my fingers crossed that O is coming soon and just very late but am pessimistic that I am just not Oing after my D&C.

We used OPKs successfully when we got BFP#1 and I always tested early afternoon because I have read in so many places that the LH surge usually occurs mid - late morning. This cycle I have been testing around 1PM and 9PM to be on the safe side. I am currently on CD 20 so that's about 20 OPK's in the garbage. I didn't realize that TTCAL was not only frustrating but expen$ive Stick out tongue

  • I've only been using OPKs for a relatively short time, but I've gotten full-blown EWCM for 2 days before my +OPK.

    Good luck!

CM changes to EWCM are controlled by estrogen. OPKs are controlled by LH. Different hormones. It is entirely possible (even probable) to get copious EWCM before a + OPK. It isn't a big deal, because sperm can live several days and be waiting when you do O.

Laying in wait, so to speak.

    So... Hump it out!

This!  I didn't actually know any of that, but now I do and I agree.  :)
