3rd Trimester

dr appt today ... induction scheduled

so my BP was up a ?little last week, so she made me come in the next day to check it again. Since it was down she said she would not induce.

Then I went in today (less than a week later) she did a NST, checked my fluid & urine and all that good stuff. everything still looks fine.

However she said if the baby doesnt come by monday I need to head to the hospital around noon for an induction.?

my palms have been sweating since. so I'll be 1 week, 1 day over. Some women go TWO weeks over ... and everything is perfectly healthy. Im wondering why she cant just do another NST on monday and let me go a couple more days if?necessary. ?Shes made it clear that she WANTS to induce me. I honestly feel like its more of a scheduling issue than a health issue. She even brought up her schedule when telling me to come in on Monday at noon instead of in the morning. I really like and TRUST my doctor despite this issue im having with inducing.

Re: dr appt today ... induction scheduled

  • Can you talk to her about it?  It is YOUR body and YOUR baby.  Tell her you'd like to postpone induction for as long as possible, and that you'd be more willing to agree to an induction around the 42 week mark.  I wouldn't do anything I didn't want to/feel comfortable with.

  • Why not call back and ask for another NST instead?  You can still do that.  If it's not medically necessary, don't feel like you have to do it just b/c it's what your doctor wants.
  • You do know that you can still tell her no, right. As long as you know that...see how you feel closer to that day and then maybe just get the NST instead. As long as both you and baby are healthy on Monday, why not give it another week - if that is what you want.
  • Some doctors don't feel that going past 41 weeks is worth the risk - that at a certain point the placenta starts to age and does not sustain the baby the way it should. But ultimately, it is your call and you should talk to your doctor. You may go into labor by that point anyways.

yeah - this is what she has said. She prefers not to go beyond 1 week and believes it to be risky.

I think I will call her Friday afternoon if it still hasnt happened and talk about scheduling another NST for monday instead of the induction. I will tell her Id like a few more days.

  • Jessica,

I just wanted to say good luck and keep us posted.  I am in the same boat.  My EDD was last Friday and I am still here.  I go back for another NST and appointment on Monday.  It is emotional and frustrating to be late, but I keep telling myself there are much worse things.  Please keep us posted!!!

Good Luck Jennifer! You keep us posted too! :)?

  • You definitely need to tell her your thoughts and comcerns. Unless it is a true medical concern and not a reason of convenience, I would just go for another NST.
