Can a baby get in the habit of a bad latch if you don't correct it? When DD was just a couple of weeks old, it would take us 20minutes to latch her on. So if she finally latched and started eating I wouldn't correct it if it was a bad latch. Well, I think she's gotten into the habit of a bad latch (after a while the bad latch wasn't as uncomfortable I guess). Now, when she latches on and gets a big mouthful, she works her way down to the nipple where she is used to sucking. I actually think my nipple has gotten molded to her mouth this way (the bottom side of my nip has a crease where her lower gums hit it). But it's only on my left nip so it could just be a weirdly shaped nipple.
I am also flat chested so she may not be able to get a good latch b/c I don't have enough flesh for her mouth to compress.
