question from 3T re: progesterone supps/dosage

Hi ladies... just a quick question for you if you were on progesterone during your 2wws... what type and what dosage gave you your best results? i have consistenlt had low progesterone and short Lp so i was exicted to start on progesterone. however after looking around it looks like i may be on a low dose... 25 mg suppository every morning and again every night. thanks for any insight... and sorry about the phone bumpin ugliness of this post.

I too have always had progesterone problems. When I first started fertility treatments I was on Crinone 100mg twice a day. That wasn't enough so they added in 300mg of Prometrium a day so I was at that point on 500mg. I still got my period without stopping it. Since starting IVF my doctor switched me to Crinone and PIO injections but with this last IVF I was taking 2cc of PIO injections nightly which is equivalent to 200mg of progesterone. That seemed to do the trick. Apparently I am just one of those people that don't respond well to oral or vaginal progesterone.

Thanks ladies... I called to see if I should come in for P4 7dpiui to see if the dosage was adequate, and they said I didn't need to cause I was on a high dosage.  That is so not true apparently.  They said if I wanted to, I could for peace of mind.  Yessir, I think I'll do that!

I was on 100mg suppositories, 1 a day at bedtime.  My RE didn't start me on progesterone until I got my BFP.

I bled through 3 Prometrium's a day on CD21 for IUI.  I have had suspected prog issues and a LPD.

For IVF I was on 1mg shot of PIO, and at 7dpt blood monitoring, my progesterone was only 16.  We increased the shot to 1.5mg plus I added in the prometrium as a backup.

The progesterone requirements for IUI vs IVF are really different (I recently learned in my Maternity class). With IVF the corpus luteum is disrupted and can't secrete it, hence the supplements. With IUI, since you ovulate, the corpus luteum is intact and working!

 Is this true for LPD as well?  As long as I ovulate, the requirement is less, even though my progesterone levels are low?  Thanks!

For my IVF cycles I took 600 mg of prometrium daily until 10 weeks pregnant (2 suppositories three times a day.)  A side effect I had was spotting.
