NBR: Home security system

Anyone have one, recommendations, costs, etc?  With everything that happened last weekend, I'm wondering if we should look into one.  But IDK anyone around here that has one, so IDK if they even work.  We weren't the only ones vandalized but we have the most damage, although they did shoot at a car with a woman and child in it.  Real freaking winners.

I'm sorry you are dealing with this, J, that really sucks.  Do you guys get Time Warner out there?  I know we don't where I live but I think they do security systems.  Other than that though I'm not too sure...  Good luck!!

We have ADT home security. We have to pay a monthly monitoring fee of 30.00. I like it since DH is gone a lot. It covers the doors and there is a movement sensor in the basement and a glass break detector. But it can get costly if you want the windows monitored etc.

But no security like a big dog, or loud dog. Seriously, we had 2 dogs and I don't think anyone would have broken in to our house. We are getting another dog soon, or hoping to anyway.

And WHAT? in regards to shooting BB's at a car with a women and child in it? I hope they were arrested! Geese, It's bad enough that they destroy property but to put someone at risk, especially a child? Yikes.

So sorry you even have to consider it. Do they have any leads on who did it? I can't believe they shot with someone in the car. We don't have a system, but my uncle has one through Time Warner since he is retired and travels alot. He has it on the doors, windows, and I think there is also a monitor on his sump pump. They call when they detect anything out of order, and when my uncle's away, they have call my dad. He's had them for a number of years now, and seems quite happy with the service.

Yep they arrested someone, a 20 year old, who has no reason to target us or the elderly man who lives nearby and had a window shot out.  We've also heard that there were 2 other people involved, 1 of which has a reason to dislike us.  We do have a dog, who loves to bark but shockingly didn't hear anything on Saturday night, so I'm thinking he must have been outside or something.  He's not ferocious but I do think the bark can deter people. Last I knew Time Warner stopped service like 3 miles from our house so I don't think that will be an option. 

How stupid do you have to be to shoot at a car with people in it?  Of course they're going to notice that and report it!  

It's annoying because we have the paperwork to file for restitution but the one who was arrested is a waste of space, doesn't work, and isn't a minor so his parents won't be ordered to pay.  So we will probably never see that money.
