Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

traveling to Lake Tahoe

We are planning a trip to Lake Tahoe in late August.  It will be me, my husband, and our son (he will be 19 months at the time).  Has anyone been there and have an suggestions on where to stay or activities for a toddler?  We love to bike, hike, and do other outdoorsy things.  I was hoping find somewhere kid friendly with a pool or other activities for him.

Re: traveling to Lake Tahoe

  • South Lake Tahoe has more to do, so I'd suggest staying there. We have a cabin in "the Keys" so I cant suggest a hotel to stay at. Check VRBO because there are always tons of listings for South Lake Tahoe Keys area!A cabin would probably be more comfortable for you and you can find reasonably prices ones that time of year.

Heavenly always has activities going on and there are beach access areas. I dont know how far it is, but the Ponderosa might be fun to take your son. The Ponderosa is where Bonanza was filmed. I would totally bring our DD. They have animals and lots of areas he can run around. Could be a day thing for you guys. We would go when I was younger and I always had fun.

Hmmm it looks like they might be closed. Call before you go. :)Here's a link

  • Are you planning on going to North or South Lake Tahoe?

I lived in Carson City so I know the South side better. I don't really know the Cali side. I totally agree with PP about renting a cabin no matter what side you are on though.

  • I live about 90 minutes from Tahoe and there is definitely enough outdoorsy stuff to keep you busy in the summer.

I also agree with PP about renting a cabin/house, but if you are set on a hotel, I'd definitely recommend either the Embassy Suites or Mariott Timber Lodge in South Shore.

You've got the Lake, the beach, plenty of bike riding, hiking, etc.

Summer will be busy and tends to be a bit pricier time than Fall or Spring.
