Shopping trip with E this morning to HomeGoods. Pleased with my selections I headed for the checkout where the cashier cooed and giggled at E sitting in the cart. "How old is she?" She just turned one. "Is she your first granddaughter?" *pause* (Jaw hits the floor) No, she's my first daughter.
OK, so I'm no spring chicken, I will be 40 in April, and although biologically I COULD be a grandmother but - REALLY?! I'm chalking this right up with someone asking when the baby is due when you aren't pregnant. The girl looked about 12 to me so I probably looked ancient to her but - REALLY? Grandmother?! I'm going to go pout and put on some wrinkle cream.
Re: I'm in shock and awe!
Awwwww.... sorry momma. It is a funny story, though.
It annoys the hell out of me what some people have the balls to say. When I was 7 months pregnant and having issues with preeclampsia, a coworker, on a daily basis, said something about how fat I was and if I was sure I wasn't have twins. So, rude.
Ouch!
That happened to my dad when he brought my sister to kindergarten. He was 51, so it made sense.
LOL!!!!!!!! Omg, that's AWFUL!
I might have smacked that girl just out of pure reaction.
I can see where a young person would say that. Still sucks though.
Ouch! I think it would be so much more likely you'd be her mother than grandmother, sheesh!
When DH and I were engaged we went to a bridal expo and one of the vendors said something to DH about "his daughter" referring to me. I am 11 years younger than him, but come on. It actually really upset me for awhile, I've always been sensitive to remarks about our age difference.
