Trying to Get Pregnant

Hello all, question too!

Hell All,

I'm new to the board. My husband and I are TTC. We've been together for almost 11 years, married going on 3 years. I went off my BCP in September after being on it for almost 10 years. Originally I was on it for ovarian cysts. On the pill AF came on a regular 28 day cycle. Then the next 2 months after going of the pill it was 35 days. I should have had AF shortly after Christmas and it never came. I took some HPT and all were negative (tried different brands). If my counting is correct, I should get AF tonight.

I've used OPK and I was curious if anyone has used the ClearBlue easy fertility monitor. It is a pricey piece of equipment, but I was just wondering it anyone has used it and what their opinions are.

Good luck to all of you TTCer's!

Thanks!

Re: Hello all, question too!

  • Welcome! I have not used the CBEFM; however, I (along with many of the ladies on this board) highly recommend that you chart your BBT every day so that you may have a better understanding of your cycles. Temping along with the use of OPKs will help you to pinpoint your fertile window and ovulation. Many of us use fertilityfriend.com to chart our temps. If you are interested in learning more about it, you may click on anyone's tickers to access Fertility Friend and sign up (it's free!). Good luck with your TTC journey!

  • Welcome!

Your period came every 28 days on the pill because you were hormonally controlling it to happen every 28 days. It is normal for your cycle to range in length after you get off the pill.

My first few cycles off the pill ranged from 25-47 days.

Instead of ClearBlue, women on here use Wondfos, which are super cheap and available on Amazon.

You may want to check out Fertility Friend (click anyone's ticker to get there).

    Good luck.

  • How many days has it been since your last period?  You keep counting from the day of your last period to determine the length of your cycle.  If you never got a period after Christmas, I wouldn't expect one today just because it is 35 days later.  If it has been more than 60 days since your last period, I would call your doc and see if they can give you a script for provera to start a new cycle.

I have no experience with CBEFM, I use cheapy OPKs from Amazon.  They have worked well for me.

  • Yes I borrowed the monitor from a friend and used it for 2 cycles.  I loved it the first cycle, but the second cycle never caught my LH surge so I got annoyed with it.  I had a clear LH surge w/ Wondfo OPKs that cycle so I don't know why it missed it. So instead of spending $55 on a box of their sticks and having it miss my surge again, I just use my Wondfos and a CBE digital as a back up when I see a positive.  I do know people who were successful w/ it and loved it.

  • My period ended 11-26-11. I figured if it didn't come this month I'd call my doc and see what the hold up is. I was originally on BC for ovarian cysts... I don't know how long it takes for them to come back after being controlled so long with BC. I was at the OBGYN the beginning of Nov. for my yearly check-up and everything was fine then.

    Thanks for the tips!

If you go longer than 60 days w/out a period, you should go to a doctor. They can prescribe something to jump start your period.

  • I use the CBEFM (this is my 2nd cycle). The first cycle it is common to not get any peak readings because it is getting to know you (this happened to me). This month it did give me a peak reading but I'm pretty sure a day after I O'd according to my temps. I like it and think it's easy to use but I just wanted to try anything possible to get pregnant quickly. I can't tell how effective it is yet but overall I like it.
