If your LO has a blanket attachment...

Do you limit the blanket to only in home use or only in crib use?  My son wants to bring it everywhere and it is big and gets dirty.  I do not want him using it outside of the house but cannot deal with the temper tantrum and yelling in car or elsewhere when he does not have it with him.

Re: If your LO has a blanket attachment...

  • DS is only attatched to a type of blanket, he loves his A&A blankets.  However, when we leave the house we let him have a think cloth diaper/burp cloth that is the same material.  Could you maybe try something like that?

  • My son likes to bring his everywhere too and we've let him.  It gets so dirty too - I hate it but it gives him so much comfort, that I'm reluctant to limit it right now.  I'm taking a wait and see approach and hopefully within the next few months, it will be a bed-only type of thing.

  • My DS just loves blankets in general. He has a specific one that I consider "his" blanket.  He has other blankets though and he is fine w/ any of them.  I don't really limit it, however, he doesn't throw fits about it.  If it's there, he will love on it, if it's not there, he doesn't seem to notice.  I try not to take it out of the house, but I don't mind if he has it in the car.  If it's in the car though, it stays in the car.

  • We're mean. Teddy (which is really a blankie with a bear hear) stays in her crib. I don't want to deal with the hassle of finding a replacement if/when it gets lost. Some mornings she fights us but mostly she'll drop him in her crib before we do her diaper.

  • I let him have it at home (also try to limit it there to certain times of day), and sometimes in the car, like on long trips or if he's tired.  He does not bring it to play groups or in the store, etc at all.  The ONE time I let him bring his blankie in his stroller while I was outlet shopping, he lost it.  So that's my explanation to him of why he can't bring it with him.  Stick out tongue

  • DD's "bwankie" is really just a cloth diaper/burp cloth so luckily we have about 20 of them.  So, yes, we let her take them wherever because they're easy to wash and/or replace.  Although, she usually doesn't want it too much, except in the car sometimes.

All I can think of in your situation is the book "Owen" (great book if you don't have it!) The mom cuts up the blankie and makes a bunch of little ones that he can take with him.  Maybe that could work?

  • DS's blanket is limited to the house (or if we are going to my parent's house and it is close to bedtime I will allow it there).

n We have a "car blanket" which is similar in texture and look that he is allowed to have but that one stays only in the car or stroller.

DD is very similar except she wants to bring EVERY stuffed animal she owns with her. Now we have a special stuffed animal (her favorite character) which she gets in the car with the same rules as DS's blanket. She has done really well when she is walking to the door with 10 stuffed animals in her arms and I say "no leave those here because we have special mickey in the car. She drops everything and runs to the door.

  • She carries around her "bank" all day long, but we never take it outside the house.

  • DD2's blanket is pretty small, but she's recently decided that she must carry around any blanket she sees. :) The small one comes with us in the car, and it usually gets put in my purse when we're inside the store or where ever. At home she usually puts her blankets in a pile with her paci. She's play for a long time, then decide she needs her blankies to cuddle with me, and then she'll put them down and go play again. I don't limit them yet.

  • Etude, that is really funny.  I have a hoarder, too...she will carry around as many of anything that she can hold.

Naomi is super attached to her owl blanket (one of those little ones with the head attached).  She prefers to be holding it at.all.times.  If I'm leaving her somewhere, no doubt it goes (like the gym daycare).  Sometimes, too, it's not worth the hassle of prying it out of her hands for no good reason, so it's come sledding with us, and usually gets covered in gross at every meal (we have 3).  I try to leave it, though, when I can.  Today she didn't have it as we were getting ready to go to the park, so I didn't remind her and she played for an hour without it.

  • B's bankie stays in her crib for the most part.  She really only wants it when she's tired or sick.
  • It's just a fleece baby blanket from Walmart. I cut it in half and alternate the pieces. He can have it in the house, in the car, and at MDO for nap times. So far he's been really easy going about not always having it with him and I hope it stays that way.

The Nest/Bump sucks and won't let me change my location. I'm in Arkansas, not Florida.
  • My son is attached to his blanket but it has always been a nap/bed thing.  We do not let it out of the crib.  My son sucks his thumb just to fall asleep and will only put his thumb in his mouth if that blanket is in his hand.

  • LO has the Aden & Anais Issies. They mainly stay in his crib but sometimes I will let him carry it around the house if he is tired or sick.
  • A has a Little Giraffe mini blanket for his lovey. It generally stays in his room at home and never leaves the house unless we're traveling and I want to encourage him to nap in the car/on the plane.
