2nd Trimester

Bassinet, pack and play, combo....

I am looking to get a bassinet so that for the first month or so LO can sleep in the room with us but I have came across the pack and plays that have a bassinet attached, after doing some research and looking I'm thinking this is a better way to go since babies aren't in bassinets that long but the pack and play is still used as they get older. What do you ladies think?

I am doing a Winnie The Pooh nursery and found this: https://www.disneybaby.com/products/classic-pooh-pack-n-play-playard-with-newborn-napper/

  • I would go with a PnP since you can continue to use it for a longer amount of time.  We used it when we went on vacation when my daughter was 18 months old.  IMO you get the most bang for your buck with a PnP.

That was my thought too, I had never seen one with the bassinet in it like link I posted. Thank you!

  • I've seen nice ones go for as little as $70. They have the bassinet too. What concerns me is that the bassinet weight limit is like 15 lbs. tops.

  • I was going to use the pack and play, but then realized that our crib is pretty small so I actually think we will just move the crib next to our bed.  That will free up the pack n play for use downstairs or traveling.

  • I am going with a PNP with the bassinet... My home isn't that big and I feeling a bassinet would take up a lot of space and only be useful for a short time.

I am only planning to have my LO sleep in my room for the first month if even that long, I want her to be used to her crib and her own room which is also why I like this idea. I just can't see spending a crazy amount on a bassinet that won't be used for long.

  • I am doing the pnp also. However I read in the Baby Bargains book that the bassinet is not safe because of SIDS. I am getting one with just the changer/napper thing because of this.

That's backwards. They do not recommend the newborn napper because of the plush, cushy materials used.

  • pack n play all the way! We continued to use ours for my almost 3 year old up until a couple months ago for when we would travel somewhere that there wasn't a crib/bed for her. Ours had the bassinet portion and we just converted it when she got to big for that portion. It has been one of our greatest investments by far. I plan to keep it after this baby for anyone that brings little ones over to our house. super handy.

  • We're planning on getting a one of these too. We do a lot of weekend trips to our parents, so it will be great for traveling. I plan to put it in our room for the first few weeks home, then the baby will go into the big crib.

  • I bought the Graco pnp with newborn napper and a little changing table thing for my DD - BEST THING I EVER PURCHASED!  This baby will sleep in the newborn napper portion of the same PNP for a few months then DD will move into a big girl bed and baby will go into the crib.

  • I used the bassinet top of my PnP w/ DD & DS. It was great. The only gripe I have is that I have narrow doorways and I couldn't just move it from room to room w/ out having to collapse it & set it up again. Now that I'm going to have 3 LO's in a small house I wanted something I could easily move from room to room because sometimes my kids like to watch TV in my room (and sometimes they'll fall asleep in my bed watching cartoons!!!! AH peace & quiet!) my MIL nicely bought me a cradle that will roll right out and fit through my narrow doorways. We're not setting up the nursery til LO #3 is 6-8 weeks old. I didn't want to shock my kids to much all at once by bringing home a new little person who will need a lot of my time AND taking way their toy room (which is our 3rd bedroom). Here's the link to the cradle MIL got us. https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3902351

  • We're doing the same thing with the pack'N'play. We got one for about $130 from Target but the bassinet part can hold a baby up to a higgher wieght than some others. Definitley check the weight and age the bassinets can hold to make sure this is better for your dollar...

It's also better because you can use the crib when the baby is big enough. I think the Pack'n'Play goes further down the road with the price tag.
