Carrier Recomendations

I have the K'Tan wrap but I just can't seem to get the hang of it. I'm assuming I'll be equally terrible with a Moby wrap. I'm looking into a baby bjorn type carrier, and since they're pricey, I would like to know if any of you ladies have one that you would recommend.

TIA!

Re: Carrier Recomendations

  • Have you watched some videos on YouTube for the K'Tan?

I'd recommend a mei tai (like a Freehand or Babyhawk) or an Ergo rather than a Bjorn.

  • I think things change a LOT over the first few months.  The k'tan was easier to use when she was older, imho.  The bjorn is annoying on many fronts - crotch dangle on the LOs, hard on the back, and doesn't go to a terribly high weight.  SSC's like the Ergo (I have a Catbird Pikkolo) can be fabulous when they are big enough and will last for a LONG time.  And wovens are great too.  It really depends on how you plan to use it.  If I had to do it over again, I'd go with a SSC and a woven.

  • OP, I was about to create a similar post.  I currently have a Moby and DD HATES it with a passion.  I'm so overwhelmed with all of the options.  And I have someone on CL that is about to sell me their Bjorn but I decided to see what you ladies thought first. I hope you get lots of replies.  I'd love to hear what carriers are working for most.

Bjorns tend to get uncomfortable by about 15 lb. They don't support a baby's hips in a good position. They're overpriced for their limited usefulness.

The more adjustable a carrier is, the more people it will fit well. So while I love my Ergo - other people don't find them comfy. Whereas something like a mei tai or ring sling is easier for anyone to get a good fit, if they get it properly adjusted.

  • I have a Boba Wrap (aka Sleepy Wrap) and I LOVE it! Because it has a little stretch it was easy to learn how to tie. LO LOVES being in it, he hated the Moby and cried the whole time he was in it. The negative to the Boba is that it does get warm/hot. I will probably purchase a Beco for Spring/Summer time use.
