I have read from a few places that if you are not sure if it is real labor than you should have a glass, take a bath and try to sleep. I would like to know if anyone has any nagative info about this.

I almost never drink wine anyway, but when I was almost 39 weeks with DD2, I thought I might be in early labor- very regular and frequent BH contrax- and DD1 was sick with a stomach bug. I was determined that it was not going to be that night so I went to the grocery store and bought a bottle of wine. I had a glass, went to bed, and went into labor 6 days later. Anyway, I think a glass is fine.

I've heard wine as well as a shot of vodka or whiskey.
I think the thought is that if you aren't in full on labor, the alcohol will help you relax and the contractions will subside, but if your body is actually in labor, then the drink will help your mind and body relax so the contractions will be more effective.

My mom insisted that we all have a small toast with a glass of wine before we went to the hospital with my first baby. (I reallly only had a sip as I was feeling sick) She said her mother did this with her and it is now family tradition. LOL I think the ex hubby had 2 glasses, he was more nervous than I was. I think we will do it again, and I have taken a shower to relax me right before both of my previous deliveries, that was great. very relaxing, but during contractions I am not sure I could have gotten in or out of a bath tub.
I was told if I wasn't sure if it was the real deal to draw a warm bath and drink a glass of wine. If contractions strengthen then it's the real deal, if they weaken then it's false labor. FWIW, I got in the bath with a glass of wine twice before it was the real deal.
Nope. Call me paranoid but I have no plans on thinning out my blood before I have a baby.
I should add that I had a mc last year and almost needed a blood transfusion so that probably makes me a little more nervous then I would be.
I'd worry about this too. I'm fair skinned, redheaded, and freckled. I'm already supposed to have bleeding problems (I never get hurt, so I don't know if I do or not), so while I /might/ be willing to try this, this is where my concern would be.
It seems like this is commonly suggested by MWs. However, they will have to figure out something else for me because I cannot stand wine of any sort. I wonder if a beer would have the same results.
when early labor started my doula told me to have 1/2 a glass of wine and soak in the tub. If its real labor it will relax me and help the cxns, if its false labor they will stop. (FWIW it was real labor)
I was so worried about throwing up though that i was worried drinking any alcohol would make me queasy.
In retrospect, i really wish i had taken their advice. i ended up so uptight about the start of labor i spent the next 12 hours wide awake in my tub while DH slept. (my labor ended up being 40 hours). Had i known i was in for such a long labor (and that this was just the beginning and was going to get A LOT more intense, i definitely would have done WHATEVER i could to get some rest).

I had a beer during the start of labor for some reason it sounded so good and it really helped me relax. I took a shower and determined it was real labor when my DH packed me bag in the car and came to get me dressed to go to the hospital three hours later DS was in our arms

I did. I think it helped me progress quickly.

Breastfeeding and pregnant!
