? About Prometrium

When I was pregnant with DS, I had to take Prometrium since my progesterone levels were too low. Everything turned out great and I am grateful that my doctor did the labs and prescribed it. Now that I am opening myself up to the thought of TTC #2, I am wondering what happens since I had to take Prometrium in the past. I am going to mention this to my new Dr before we even start TTC, but I am just curious.

Does anyone else have experience with this? I just started thinking about all of this and want to be a little prepared before heading into the doctor! TIA!

Re: ? About Prometrium

  • I was on it with both my pregnancies from the time I ovulated through the first trimester. So I got my prescription filled before I conceived. Cycles where I did not get a BFP, I would stop taking it. My levels were tested right after my BFP and were still low so they had me double my dosage with my second pregnancy. I had a miscarriage due to low progesterone (we assume) before my first successful pregnancy.

  • Cokt-That is exactly what I was wondering. It took well over a year for me to get pregnant with DS (we had already started testing to figure out what was going on at the time) and I am now concerned about low progesterone levels in the future. I figured that it would be a possible option to take progesterone while TTC. Thanks for your help!!

  • I took it with DS starting at ovulation as well. My levels were checked after I had two miscarriages. This time around, I got a surprise BFP with not being on it! I went in and had my levels checked and they were within normal range, but the doctor went ahead and put me on it as a precaution given my history. I am glad he was being so cautious, but I really think I didn't need it and it made me so, so tired and sick. Or maybe it was just normal pregnancy symptoms, who knows? Either way, I was glad to stop taking it at 12 weeks.

I also hated the way I felt most of the first tri and couldn't tell if it was morning sickness or the meds. It was like waking up with a hangover every morning. Sad Thanks, everyone!
