C-sections

Swelling & Stairs

Hi,

I'm lurking here because the delivery of my first baby resulted in a c-section and I have a few questions.

I'm guessing the answer is more time, but does anyone have suggestions on how to help reduce the swelling associated with a c-section?  I'm drinking lots of water, trying to increase my intake of protein, and taking Mortin.  Anything else?

StairsL our bedrooms are upstairs, and they told me I could have 1 trip up/down per day and I could increase trips based on my pain.  I've been able to tolerate more trips, but is this helping or hurting my healing?

TIA!

Re: Swelling & Stairs

  • The swelling will go down with time. If it is severe talk to your OB.

The stairs...I was told the same thing about once a day and mostly I had no trouble doing that because DD slept in my arms and I just changed her diaper in the living room.  Mostly I did fine with stairs on my own, but was afraid to carry DD up and down for a couple of weeks, so I hung out downstairs when I was alone.

If you feel okay, you probably are okay. Just listen to your body. I would find that I felt okay while I was doing things and then a little later I really wasn't okay. So, just take it slow.

  • The swelling was awful. I think it took a week for my feet to go back to normal. keep walking around as much as you can. MH also massaged them for me.

Stairs...I avoided them for a couple of days and slept on the couch. Then I just listened to my body. If I was too sore after 1 trip up and down, I just stayed down stairs. Moving around helps your body heal.

  • The swelling does just have to go away on its own.  Mine hurt so bad I called the dr and they said it was normal.  If you aren't having pain using the stairs I would say you're fine.  But if it starts hurting or you are sore the next day scale back the activity some.

  • It took about 2-3 weeks for the swelling to go away.   Nothing helped to actually make it go away but I did find if I was up too much on my feet that my feet would swell so bad they felt like they would burst, so I tried to stay off my feet as much as possible.

I was not told anything regarding stairs other than don't carry anything up and down the stairs.
