How old is a 25 pound baby?

I have no idea how quickly babies grow, since this is our first baby.  Most of the "infant" gear such as bouncers, swings, etc, that I am researching for our registry have a 25 pound max. weight limit.  I'm trying to figure out how old a baby is when he/she reaches 25 pounds.  I just don't want to invest baby gear that can only be used for a few months.  Any thoughts mommies???

Re: How old is a 25 pound baby?

  • My daughter weighed in at 25# today at her 15 month well visit - she is at 80-something percentile, so she is a little bigger than the average. And FWIW, she is way past the stage of bouncers and swings. We used the bouncer to 6 months-ish and the swing until about a year.

  • I had to go look.  DD was 23.8lbs at her 12 month checkup.  We were long past the stage of bouncer, swing, etc.  DD was walking and stuff.  Well, I take that back, I had a bouncer out for a baby I was babysitting and she would sit in it every chance she could but, you know, she didn't really FIT into it LoL Stick out tongue

Most of that stuff you'll only use for a few months...

Anywhere from 10 months to 2+ years.

Each baby grows differently. Some 12 month olds are 30 lbs and other 12 month olds are just at 20 lbs. DS just had his 18 month apt and is 26.5 lbs and in the 75th percentile. He was 24 lbs at his 12 month check up so he hasnt grown much since then.

Also, DS grew out of his infant car seat at 6 months old, but a friend off ours DD is 1 and still fits in hers.

DS1 was 25 lbs at his 18 month appt. All kids grow at different speeds. DS1 outgrew his vibrating seat and swing around 6 months. He outgrew his exersaucer around 10 months when he learned to walk and hated to be in any seat.

  • I would say somewhere around 1.5-2. My son is 3.5 and weighs 33 pounds.
  • I agree that every baby is different. My daughter is almost 2 and weighs only 25 lbs. She is in the 75 percentile for height though so we still have to go with bigger clothes for length sometimes.

  • check out the CDC/WHO growth charts, good to give you a general idea when shopping for gear.
  • The baby will probably get too old for an item before he reaches the weight limit.  You wouldn't put a 1 year old in a bouncer seat- no reason for it.  DD still liked to get in the swing at her friend's house a 1 but it was a novelty.  She didn't weigh 25 lbs until a year and a half or older and she's always been right around the 50th percentile.

  • My neice is 8mths old and 25 pounds.  She's a cute chunky baby!

  • My son would've been a little over a year, because I know he was still under the 20 lb. weight limit on his infant seat at 1 year.  At that point he could stand and even walk, so definitely too old for a bouncer seat or swing at that point.  BUT, even if you only use a bouncy seat/swing etc. for a couple of months, you may find it invaluable if you end up using it every day to put the baby in to entertain them while you shower, cook dinner, etc.  The motion of the swing may be the only way to get your baby to nap, or on the other end of the spectrum, your baby might hate it, so I wouldn't bother registering for a really expensive version.

  • My son is 27 lbs and turned two last week.... It really depends on your child's percentile (my son is typically around 10%-15%)..... My son really didn't care for much of that gear once he was walking and he was still below the weight restrictions

  • I think DS hit 25 lbs sometime around 15 months or so.  Keep in mind a lot of that stuff they won't use much more once they are mobile - DS was done with the bouncer, swing, etc before he reached the weight limit.

  • Depends on the child.  My son is 14 months and a little less than 25 lbs, probably about 22 or 23.

Like other poster said, he got too big for those bouncy toy things by 6 months but he really didn't like his bouncer.  He had one of those stand up spin things he used until about 7 months.

  • I haven't read through all of the other posts, but my DD is 17 months and is still barely 20lbs.

  • My baby boy was 25.5 pounds when he was 8 months old... he's a big baby, I'm happy with his weight because he was 30 inches long, so his weight/height rate is ok.

  • Definitely depends. My son was 25 pounds at 2 years and it's looking like my daughter will be the same.
