C-sections

What to pack for a C-Section and Belly Bandits?

I found out today that I will be having a c-section because my baby is breech. Is there anything special I need for the hospital since I'm having a c-section?

What do you all think of belly bandits?

Re: What to pack for a C-Section and Belly Bandits?

  • I don't think you need anything different than with a vaginal delivery. I really liked having a nursing bra, bathrobe (lightweight cotton) and boppy. Everything else I could give or take.

As far as belly bandits, I hated the two different binders I had. I had a belly bandit the first time, and I thought sizing was really weird. I got the size they told me to, and it was impossible to get on right (felt too small, but then was soon too big). I bought a different kind this time and I felt it was worthless. My OB said she didn't think it made a difference either way, but it makes some people feel better. Some people like them though.

  • Make sure you have something comfy (yoga pants) to wear home - you won't want anything rubbing against your incision.  I started wearing the belly bandit about a week post surgery - and I wish I started sooner.  It helped to relieve the pressure off of my incision, and just made me feel more secure.  I am not sure if it made a difference in losing my belly, but the secure feeling was priceless. Good luck!

  • Girls - I feel pretty clueless - is the belly bandit supposed to COVER where the incision is or go higher above, like around your waist??
  • my hospital offerered these cheap pads that we use from woman who cant get out the bed and are on their period....i placed one over my incesion to keep my pants from rubbing it....just some friendly advice

  • The belly bandit lays over the incision area...i just wore cotton granny panties underneath to prevent irritation.
  • I bought a belly bandit according to the size chart and it never fit properly, the small was too small and medium too big.. I ended up just buying a cheap jolly jumper one from babies r us to cover my incision when I walked around the house etc...

You will want some granny panties and high waist pants to wear home so it covers your incision, and bring along a robe so you can wear it while walking around in the hospital. Bring some toiletries, nursing pads, slippers (bring two pairs.. A little TMI, but when I stood up for the first time after surgery, I had blood running down my legs and onto my slippers).  I also brought my hair dryer since the room didn't have one. My hospital bag was more like a suitcase :p

This.  The mesh panties were a little itchy and that didn't feel good on my incision.

As to the first question I wore the hospital gown with a robe for the first 2 days in the hospital and didn't put pants on until we left.  I did get smart on day two and put a nursing tank on so I felt a little less "bare" with visitors being in and out.

  • My supervisor had a C-section and suggest getting Spanx (or something like it.  I ordered something from Maidenform) in a size larger than you would wear to give you a a little support and she said it kept the maxi pads in place better.  So we'll see how that works out in about a week.  I also am bringing yoga pants, a robe, an old pair of slipper and slipper socks.

  • I sold my belly bandit because it sat right on my incision. The hospital gave me a binder that was just to help from putting to much pressure around the incision. I wore that fine.

    Find a good nursing bra.

I did this after my C-section and it worked great.  I used the Assets brand from Target which I actually liked better than my Spanx.  I usually wear a small and the medium was perfect.  It really helped with the pain the first couple of weeks after the surgery and made my clothes fit a lot easier, too.

  • I normally wear thongs but none of them go high enough.  They all seem to go right on the incision.  So I bought the $5 Victorias Secret boy shorts.  They worked like a charm!  Nice and high waisted for a c-section!
