C-sections

Is anyone not scheduling their RCS?

I have spoken with my dr about not wanting to pick a date and she said that it would be fine for me to go into labor and then go to the hospital to have my c/s.  She said that I am a great candidate for a VBAC, but the hospitals in my area are not too  willing to allow them.

I don't know why, I just can't bring myself to picking a date for a c/s, so I feel this is the best option for us.  I just have had a few people tell me that I shouldn't fight it and just schedule the date.

I guess I figure that since I am not a VBAC candidate (and am not really interested in one anyway) one of the benefits of the RCS is being able to schedule it ahead of time.
This. I liked that I could schedule it and be prepared. I had a plan for DD and never had to deal with waking anyone in the middle of the night to come be with her cause I was in labor. I was well rested and showered going in because I knew when it would be so I was prepared. I got to choose the Dr that would do it and my DH could plan for his job. PLUS, I went through 21 hours of labor with my first and I didn't want to experience that ever again, if I didn't have to. For future babies I will probably jus schedule them on thier due dates.

  • Mine is scheduled per my OB's request, but my preference is to go in to labor and have my RCS. I have a lot of anxiety about the surgery (yes, even though it will be my third). I figure if I am in labor the surgery will feel necessary in the moment and I won't have time to over think it and work myself up.

  • Ours will be scheduled. Mostly because if I don't, I won't get my doctor for the surgery. If you go into labor on your own (which could still happen of course) whatever doc is on call delivers you. Our clinic and hospital don't like allowing VBAC's but since I just gave birth this past Aug and i'm giving birth again this coming Aug - I know it's a bit safer of an option for me to do a RCS anyways.

I think it's neat you want to wait though. I don't want to "pick a date" so I thought about letting my doc tell me what dates she'll be able to do the RCS and then drawing them out of a hat lol. That way i'm not picking really! lol

  • I'm in the same situation as you are.  My doctor told me I can try a vbac, but this baby is breech...  So, she said I can choose to wait to have a c-section until I go into labor.  I will have to have a c-section at 41 weeks if I don't go into labor by then, but she didn't have me schedule anything before then.

I had a scheduled date for a c-section with my son, also a breech baby, but I went into labor 3 days before that scheduled date.  So, I know scheduling doesn't promise you that you'll be having a c-section on that day.

If this baby were not breech, I would have definitely tried a vbac, but it doesn't seem like he/she is turning, so I have no choice but to have a c-section.  Still, I don't plan on scheduling a c-section, not because I'm hoping for him/her to turn, but because I feel that's when the baby is ready to come out.

    Good luck!

I agree. I have no desire to have to find someone to come watch the boys, rush tot he hospital so I can get prepped in a hurry for a c/s. I also want to chose what doctor to do my rcs if I don't I get whoever is on call.

  • My doctor is actually the one hesitant to schedule my RCS since I did not make either of my previous scheduled sections

  • Thanks everyone for your input.  I was just curious if anyone else was in a similar situation.  Although at times it would be nice to schedule it, I just want to make sure that this lo is good and ready to come out.

  • I was advised to schedule it for around 39 weeks b/c it's better for mom health-wise to have it planned than unplanned.  I guess the rates of maternal demise go up in unplanned vs. planned.  But, I wasn't a good candidate for a VBAC either, although I would have tried had I gone into labor before my RCS date.  I never did, though, and don't expect to this time, hence the bad VBAC candidate.
