I really love the idea of having DS's 2nd birthday party at this cute little petting zoo (nonprofit animal rescue place) that has a train, bounce house, and indoor party room. I am going gaga over the photos on the website of little toddlers petting fluffy goats and bunnies and stuff.
The problem - DS turns two in late June. I live in Texas. Last year I think the temp reached around 110 on his birthday.
Do I just need to give up this fantasy? I keep thinking - well, if we have the party at like 9am and do the zoo first, then go indoors for the cake it wouldn't be that bad!
What say you? Am I crazy? I mean, I know I'm crazy for already thinking about the 2nd birthday party that is almost 5 months away, but am I crazy for thinking outdoors?
Re: Tell me if I'm crazy
I am already thinking about DD's birthday in July, so I don't think you are crazy for planning ahead.
Last year, for her 1st bday, I had booked an outdoor pavilion months in advance. As her birthday got closer though, I realized it was going to be even hotter than usual for July (i.e. 105 plus degrees, like you said). After going back and forth about what to do, we ended up moving it to our house. It wasn't ideal, because we have a small townhouse and we were crammed in there pretty tight. Still, I think we all agreed that it was better than being in the sweltering heat. I am happy with our decision.
I understand your dilema, but would hesitate to have a party outside in that kind of heat.
Good luck with your decision!
I would say do it early with the zoo first and you should be good. FWIW DD's bday is in late July and it was hot (not like 110 hot but upper 90s) with horrible humidity and we did it in the late afternoon at a park...
And I do not think you are crazy for planning this far ahead I already have DD's 2nd party planned out in my head and invitations in the works
I just called them, and they said we could do the party at 10am, that the party room is indoors and air conditioned and the outside area is covered and they have a misting system. So I am seriously considering it! Chances are at that time of day it would be around 85 degrees outside. Pretty hot, but still doable I think!
And yes, I'm already thinking about the little cupcakes with barnyard animal faces and stuff.
I'm in Houston and I say go for it. At least it's usually drier in Dallas. Most of the kids/parents coming should be used to the heat so if you do it early it should be fine. 4 in the afternoon on the other hand, not so much.
Out of curiosity, what part of Dallas is this because it sounds like a great place to visit! I'm in Dallas too and all this additional info would make me seriously consider it also. I'd have a backup in my mind just in case, though, because I never trust weather here.
