For the BTDTs, can you share your weaning stories?

I just accepted a new job and already have three weeks of traveling lined up for March and April.  DD is approaching her first birthday anyway and I want to wean before the craziness begins.  

She nurses 4x/day -- in early morning around 4/5am, before daycare at 8am, after I pick her up in the afternoon and before bed.

I'd take tips, but I'm also just interesting in others' experiences.  Even though I know it's the right decision, it still feels very overwhelming.
