Pregnancy Concerns- HCG

Has anyone had the experience in their previous pregnancies of hcg levels not doubling in 48 hrs in early pregnancy?

I've been told by my doc that I'll likely miscarry due to an empty gestational sac measuring 5 wks noted at 7wks gestation by LMP.  That plus HCG not significantly rising are the two major signs of this pregnancy being unreassuring.

Just curious to see if anyone else had this experience.

Thanks.

Re: Pregnancy Concerns- HCG

  • I m/c my first pregnancy at 6 weeks along. HCG levels were low (don't remember the exact number, it was 3 years ago) and when the dr did the u/s all that was showing was an empty sac measuring 5-6 weeks and no hb. GL and I hope everything turns out ok for you! My second pregnancy resulted in DD who is 2 today! Hope I was of some help. Take care!

  • Mine didn't end well either it was ectopic.  Hugs!!
  • I had an ectopic btwn my 2 sons.  It showed an empty sac and my HCG was not rising.  However, they kept checking to make sure it went all the way down and I had passed everything (I did bleed heavily and passed clots).  At one point my HCG started to rise again instead of going all the way down.  They did another u/s and discovered the mass in my tube.  I hope they will monitor you to make sure it's not ectopic.  Left Hug *internet zombie hugs*

Good luck with whatever resolution you come to.

Early pregnancy sucks-- it is so worrisome.

  • HCG not doubling is not a great sign, but it isn't a foolproof way to know you are going to miscarry either.  The empty is sac is worrisome though.  My second pregnancy my HCG was very slow to raise, and I did end up miscarrying that baby.  I would think the best thing to do would be to keep getting your blood drawn to check and see how things go.  The ladies on the MC/PL board are amazing if you are interested.  Sorry you are going through this, it is so hard to be in limbo.
