well... to keep with the topic.. c/s a ?

Man, I just got to work and it's all L&D today.... I'm not complaining. Better then... I don't even want to say it, because it might start again.

So my question is, mom's who had c/s did they strap your hands/arms down?

My SIL did have her arms strapped but I did not. We gave birth at the same hostipal and use the same doctor's office. So I was wondering if they ask you if you want your arms free? Did they just do it? If there are any nurses or people who know, do they do it only if the mother seems "jumpy"

Why are some strapped and some not?

  • I asked to not have them tied and they were not. My arms were spread out, but when Dh brought LO over I was able to move my arm and touch DD.

  • I honestly do not remember with DS2, I know I didn't "hold" him, but DH kept him right by me and my face. I *think* my arms were not strapped down , but were out stretched (kind of like  T).

I was very relaxed for DS2. With DS1 they were stapped down. It was a different hospital though. Hmmm, now I'm curious what others will say.

  • My arms were spread out but not tied. I have mild claustrophobia and have to be able to move, plus I needed to be able to turn my head and puke on the floor.

  • This sounds awful but, I truely don't remember.  I don't believe they were.  Even though I did not hold my DD right after birth I blieve I was able to touch her when my husband held her close to me.  I feel so bad that I don't remember but, it was emergancy and it is all a blur.

  • Nope, if it wasn't for TB I wouldn't even know that was something they do.

  • Mine weren't but maybe they should have been, I had the shakes BADLY from the meds. It was horrible. I was clenching my teeth and every muscle in my body to keep from shaking right off the table.

  • I don't remember if they did or not.  I don't think they did because I was able to lean over and puke all over DH at one point.  I don't think I could've done that if my arms were strapped down.

This.  I'm pretty sure they weren't strapped but I'm not 100%.  It would make sense if they did it b/c of people getting the shakes like someone else mentioned.  I know I had them BAD.  I remember being scared that I was going to screw something up b/c I just couldn't stop shaking.

  • Mine were strapped down, but they unstrapped one to let me hold DD after she was born. I knew ahead of time that they do it and thought I would freak out, but it wasn't a big deal.

  • Mine were placed out to the sides, but not tied down in any way
  • My arms were strapped down. It was super annoying, DH had to keep itching my nose for me!

  • My arm with the iv was spread out but they were not tied down but honestly with the spinal I could not even move them myself. Not sure if that was normal or just because I was kind of an emergency c/s since I was a scheduled c/s for the following day but went into active labor and my water borke the night before with a breech baby.

  • I don't know why but w/ my 1st c/s my arms were strapped. The 2nd my arms were not. Same hospital. Same OB practice, but different doctor. I didn't mind them being strapped because I had the shakes. I didn't realize they weren't strapped until a little bit into my c/s the 2nd time. I labored for a bit for both so I was a little out of it and exhausted.

  • I didn't think they were, but my husband said they were tied down.

  • I think they were. I also was shaking pretty violently though. If they were they untied them pretty quick after so I could touch his face and love on him.
