I can't leave books out because DD rips them apart with her teeth! She loves books and I hate that I have to take them away from her all day. I also hate that most of her books are falling apart! Any advice on how to get her to stop?
Right now I take them out to read to her and then put them back away. She cries hysterically when I take them away. TIA
Re: DD eating her books.
she is just so hungry for knowledge. ha. maybe just stick to the board books until she stops trying to eat them?
i dunno. i think it's pretty common for kids to get really destructive in some way with their books at some point. my daughter's weapon of choice was to rip apart all her popup/moving tab books and color all over things with permanent ink.
as she gets older, she is slowly learning the error of her ways, funny enough. yesterday we read a book which she had previously defaced with black pen, and as we read it she was like "messy!" "uh! ears broken!" yes, yes it is.
all part of the learning process. cause and effect aren't automatic. they obviously don't think about how if they eat their books and toys, they can't read or play with them later.
My girls do it, too. It's gotten a lot better in the last month, but I'm sure they've destroyed more than 50 board books. It sucks. Finally, they've started looking at them and asking for us to read them, rather than just consuming them. Once in awhile they still relapse, but there's finally hope...
We did the same thing as you. Kept them up, brought them down to read, took them away.
