I know there are mixed opinions on Oragel and not sure what to do. DS will not go to sleep for more than 20 min at a time tonight waking screaming. I've given Tylenol which seems to have done nothing but his gums are huge and swollen in the back where he's workin on molars. DH was going to run tk the store for Oragel but I am not sure if we should use it or not. Opinions??

I had no problems using orijel as my DS had 10 teeth by 10 months. He was in PAIN and the baby advil only helped so much. He was always cutting 2 + teeth a time and I felt so bad for him. At one point he had 4 teeth coming in at once.
Right now he was cutting all 4 molars at once, I haven't had to use any even though when I probably should have a few times. They all seem to be all the way in finally but he's still drooling like a faucet.
But yeah.. no problems using it here. It was a life saver, he would go from completely uncontrollable crying to happy in a few min. That stuff worked wonders when he was having really really bad tooth aches.

This x1000. Once DD hit the 6 month mark we pretty much threw out the Tylenol and switched to ibuprofen. It works a lot better.

We use it, following the directions on the tube. A little bit.. the size of a head of a pin, mushed onto a finger and rubbed onto the affected area. It makes her happy and able to sleep or play. We never use more or more frequently than the dosing says (we keep a wipe-off chart for tracking meds). And ibuprofen. Tylenol has been linked to increased cases of asthma in kids. They're not sure why, but it's what new research says. Our pedi said, "Tylenol for fever. Ibuprofen for pain." I guess all those years of med school serve a purpose. (They also said Oragel is up to us).
If you use anything wrong there can be side effects, so follow the directions. The adverse reaction that has everyone in a tizzy is extremely rare... like EXTREMELY rare. Sure, if it's your kid, it's a big deal, but it's rare enough that we decided the potential benefits outweighed the risks, and it was the right call. Once in a while, in times of serious discomfort, it is a godsend.
