Breastfeeding

My milk came in- question

My breasts are so full - its more than DD can manage.  She eats but they still feel so uncomfortably full. Should I pump to relieve them or will that just continue a  bigger supply that she can handle?

  • If you pump now you may always have to pump. Unfortunately you are going to be very uncomfortable for a few days until your body gets it's self regulated. I didn't pump and my breast controlled themselves after a few days my friend pumped because she was uncomfortable and ended up with serious over supply problems and ended up having to ep because her lo could never deal with the oversupply.

  • I would avoid pumping at this point.  Maybe take a shower to help?

  • Yes, if you pump you'll tell your body to make more milk.

Take an Advil. If you do pump, just pump enough to be comfortable.

  • Alright - no pump it is! I will wait it out!

  • If you have to try to hand express some out to relieve te pressure but this shouldn't cause an over supply.
