I'm not a fan. It doesn't sound strong to me. Actually, it sounds almost girly, like a nickname for Cadence.
This became our issue. DH LOVES the name Cade, I tried really hard to get on board, but I just couldn't past the fact it reminded me of Cait as in Caitlin (and DH has a sister named Caitlin so that was tough to get over), or a nn for Cadence. That and every time I told someone the name they went. "KABE? Spell it for me... you mean Ca-lEB?" When I wrote it, my bff pronounced it Cad-y. We are now considering it as mn... anyways, it's one of those names I think sounds good with the right last name, but it just didn't work for us.
I liked it when I saw it in the name book. However, I wasn't 100% sure how to pronounce it and thought others might not know either. I like that it's unique.
I love the name Cade but I think with all the thousands of Caden's running around it might end up sounding like a more popular name than you are looking for. What about
