Bouncer, Swing or Both??

We're decided to start tackling the issue of bouncers and swings. I'm really liking the Fisher Price Snugabunny bouncer and swing, but haven't made my decision 100% yet. Originally, I was going to buy both, but then it seemed silly to buy both and that they kind of served the same purpose, being used when mommy needs some time to take care of other things. I have read about how some kiddos don't like one or the other, but love the opposite and then of course, some women say they used both. I was just wanting some opinions on the topic from this board.

Did you buy one or both products? Do you consider one or both a MUST HAVE? Even for FTM's, what do you plan on purchasing regarding the two products?

Re: Bouncer, Swing or Both??

  • I think it is good to have both or at least try both out.  I would not get same design for each.  Since you like snugabunny which is pretty neutral, I would maybe get the swing with that and a bouncer that is bright and colorful that may better stimulate baby for change of scenery.  Make sure you get a bouncer that not only vibrates but also bounces.  My son never really liked the swing, but it was nice to have one for the occasional 15 minutes I could get him in it. For others the swing is a lifesaver.  The boncer was our lifesaver.  I had the My Little Lamb one and he hated it but loved the bright flashy Aquarium one that lit up and had fishy swimming on it and lots of colors to look at.  Every baby is different.

  • I'm glad I had both and they served completely different purposes.  The swing was big, so it stayed in our living room for daytime naps.  The bouncer was small and portable so I moved it around the house when I wanted to clean, do laundry, shower, etc.  We had the FP Rainforest bouncer and DS liked the lights, music, and toys.  I agree with PP, consider looking for a bouncer that's more stimulating and not exactly the same as the swing.

  • Those were very helpful replies. Thanks for the input. After reading those and then looking back at the Snugabunny bouncer, it does look pretty boring compared to a lot others. I think I should definitely look into something a big more fun for baby.
  • There's one that's a bouncer and a swing.  The swing only goes back and forth and not side to side though so that is a limitation but the nice thing is that the seat comes out and then serves as a bouncer too.  So unless we inherit a swing from someone else, that's the one we're going with for now.

  • I plan on just getting a bouncer seat. The babies where I used to work usually liked the bouncer way more than they liked the swing; they fell asleep faster, and they were more entertained because they weren't just staring at the bars of the swing.

  • we had a basic bouncy seat and travel sized swing (borrowed).  ds never "needed" a swing but he liked it.  I'm glad we didnt drop the cash on the big huge swing.

this time, we have the big fancy side to side/back and forth handed down from a friend.  We live in a big house and that thing is still huge.  I'm sort of hoping I never have to use it and can just get by with the bouncy seat we borrowed.
