  • we have this one-

she knows she needs to wait in her room until it turns green- now does it get her to sleep any longer? no.

Does she wait in her room mostly quiet? yes for the most part lol

  • We just bought a regular alarm clock. They tend to be cheaper. If your child isn't able to read numbers consistently yet, you can write out the time they're allowed up and put it next to the clock.

    Ditto this exactly.

We have the same one and love it!

Now DH and I know for sure that we won't be interrupted at 5 am by kiddos and the first thing I hear every morning is "the clock is GREEN!!!"

I see that you have more than one tyke.  We keep ours in the bathroom so they can both check it when they get up to pee first thing in the morning.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

  • Thanks ladies!

Ok, a question now: how much time is there usually between when LO wakes up and when their "alarm" allows them to get up/leave the room/etc?

And how did you teach LO to stay in their room until the alarm clock says otherwise? We keep trying to get DS to stay in his room when he wakes up early but he is the KING of excuses and no matter what we say or do, he finds a reason to come out. Did you have any special trick to encourage  LO to wait for the alarm clock?

And how did you teach LO to stay in their room until the alarm clock says otherwise?

Time between when they wake and when it turns green?  It varies.  We knew when they were waking so we set the alarm for 10 minute after that and pushed it back another 10 minutes every week until we got them where we wanted them  (which was 6:50 so not like we were making them stay in their rooms alone until 10 am or something).

As for how to teach them to stay?  Find his currency.

Does he have a favorite breakfast food?  You could reward him waiting until it turns green.

For us?  My youngest is a total Mamma's boy and LOOOVES his Mamma cuddles each morning.  We told him he didn't get Mamma cuddles if he came into our room before the light was green.  It only took one time and he hasn't done it since.

Keep in mind though that potty training is an issue.  The clock is yellow until the alarm goes off so we told them that if the clock was yellow (the color of pee) it meant that they could get up to pee but could not come into OUR room until it turned green.  They totally believe that the reason the clock is yellow is because it's telling them it's OK to pee.  I'd be concerned that not letting them leave their rooms at all could be cruel to their little bladders that are totally full from sleeping all night.

Our solution was to put the clock in the bathroom to encourage them to go ahead and pee before going back to their rooms.

  • How much time-?-

For us it's usually 15 minutes. She gets up around 7am but the clock goes green at 715. I really dont remember it being hard to teach hershe wasn't allowed out before it was green- like the other poster- she gets very excited (each and every morning) when it turns green and yells it (over the monitor lol).

..... Is is SAD that I give myself 15 minutes in the AM to catch the first 15 minutes of Good morning AMerica? lol. Usually the little guy is up with me already snuggling in my bed. (damn teething gets him up early right now)

  • Thanks for the great commendation on a Toddler Alarm Clock, I've been eyeing this clock for a while and it's nice to hear people like it.

Do any of you feel like it's too bright?  some of the negative reviews state it's really bright, thoughts?

We have had this for years and its amazing!!  My girls are moving into the learning to read the numbers on the clock phase adn past the "just wait until its green before leaving your room".  I love how it is growing with them and I can use this for years to come.

  • We also have this clock and while I originally bought it for the color changing "stay in your bed" aspect, it is now DS' legitimate alarm clock, he wakes up to it every morning at 7:00. He also likes turning it off for the weekends on Friday nights and gets mad if I turn it off for him.

    Love love love this clock.
