Hi ladies! Our LO came at 37 wks and has been fed a mix of formula and breastmilk from the beginning. (He was in the NICU where they started the formula)He also developed jaundice and so we are supposed to be monitoring very carefully how much he takes at each feeding. Because of this I just pump now and give him the expressed BM in a bottle. We have been alternating between feeding him breastmilk and formula. When I pump, I only pump for about 5-10 minutes per breast because that's how long it takes to fill 2- 3 oz. bottles. Is 2 oz of BM equivalent to 2 oz of formula? It seems that he gets hungry faster after having BM. Is this normal? I am trying to figure out how to BF and supplement at the same time and just want to make sure he's getting enough. He will eat about 2 oz of each, at each feeding. (2-3 hours apart)

Re: Does anyone BF and FF? Need help!
"Because breast milk digests easier than formula, which means it moves through your baby's digestive system faster and, therefore, makes your baby hungry more often."

I keep reading this on the internet...
Yes, breastmilk is more digestable. Just feed him when he gets hungry again.
Breastmilk is better than formula, remember, so if you can get him over to the boob, that's fantastic. Jaundice is NORMAL and I would hazard a guess from the advice you're getting that your doctors don't think breastfeeding is important. If you want to get to full-time breastfeeding, seek out help from a lactation consultant or La Leche League. Your doctor will probably continue to push formula.
