car seats in a 2007 corolla

We currently have DS RF in the middle seat because I have to jack the passenger seat way up to get the carseat positioned correctly behind it. He'll still be RF when DD gets here so I guess I'm just wondering if we'll have any room issues with putting the carrier next to it. If no one has experience or other suggestions for smaller cars, I guess I'll be getting the carrier back out soon to see for myself. Just curious. TIA!

Re: car seats in a 2007 corolla

  • We have a VW Jetta, I'm not sure how that compares in size to the Corolla, but we are able to have two RFing seats. DD1 is in an Evenflo Triumph behind the driver, it leaves just enough room for DH (who is 6') to drive comfortably. DD2 is in a Graco SnugRide 32 behind the passenger. It can be a little cramped for a taller person, but not too bad.

To install them properly they would not fit one in the middle and one on the side. The one in the middle would have been shoved off-center and not installed tightly (with the seat belt, there is no LATCH in the center of our back seat). So we installed them on either side using the LATCH.

  • That's what I was worried about. Well I'm only 5'0 so maybe I can fit the convertible RF behind my seat and the carrier behind the passenger seat (which caused no issues before we put DS in a convertible seat). Then by the time DD switches to the convertible she can RF behind me and DS can FF behind the passenger. I'll try that when it is time to install the carrier. Otherwise we can switch to DH's car as the family car.

  • I have 3 seats in my 2005 Corolla S.  DD is 4 and sits FF in a Sunshine Radian in the middle.  DS is 18 months.  I also have him FF in a Britax Marathon behind driver.  New baby will be here in April.  We put the SnugRide 35 RF on the other side behind the passenger.  It's a tight fit, but it works.  Not so roomy for the passenger but, oh well.
