Trouble TTC

Lupron

At the lap RE found a lot of stage 2 endo. He removed all of it. I am currently on BCPs since I'm needing to take a 3 month break to heal. Should I even ask about Lupron or will the BCPs be enough to keep the endo away? What exactly does the Lupron do?

Re: Lupron

  • My RE left it up to me.  He said that doing the Lupron would strengthen my chances of conceiving.  Lupron is supposed to suppress the endo by sending your body into pre-menopause.  All of my endo could not be removed during my lap so I chose to do 4 months of Lupron.

Were you on BCPs too? I really don't know what to do. I have an appt on Tuesday but my RE told DH we could do the Lupron- it's up to us. I just keep going back and forth. Most of the research I've done has said BCPs should be enough. I just don't know . . .

No. From what I understand BCPs can keep the endo from growing but not suppress it.  Try not to google too much because you have to remember that people usually post more if they have bad experiences than good.  IMO, the BCPs would just keep you from getting pregnant and then once you go off them you are back where you started before them.

  • Okay so I have endo also. This is my experience and some others from support groups but LUPRON is horrible, it did not help me, it made my pain worse. So has BCP's last time I got liver pain from them.

Lupron puts you in a temporary menopause, you may get hot flashes, mood swings ect. as I did. They say it will stop the endo from growing and shrink exisiting endo.

It may be better for you at stage 2, but I'm not a doctor. Just telling you my experience and other women as well.

So far the only thing that has helped my endo is depo provera shots, once a month. But now I am TTC again and my periods have stopped after 4 months of stopping my shots, it takes awhile to regain your fertility. But it is YOUR desicion on NOT your doctors remember that. Would you rather be pain free or? Sorry to be blunt endo and doctors make me angry..lol.

  • Feel free to PM me as well if you want to talk more about it. I did a 6 month lupron treatment. It was not fun. The hot flashes and migraines were awful and DH says it made me a robot (no emotions). BUT.. BCPs were doing nothing for me. I was on continuous BCPs for years and my endo continued to get worse and worse. I know for some people BCP is enough to stop endo growth, but not for me. And as Ukcats pointed out, Lupron will also shrink remaining endo on top of slowing growth; where BCPs can only slow growth.  I definitely feel way way better after lap and lupron. I would not have been able to ttc without doing it.
