Shipping costs for IKEA! CRAZY!

I found a dresser at IKEA that I want to buy for the nursery for $99. The one I really want is $400 at Land of Nod, but I'm not going to spend that.

I went to check out at IKEA, shipping is $249!!!!!!!!!!!! The closest one we have is almost two hours away. Ugh, I am so annoyed. I am going to see if my BFF who lives in Charlotte can pick it up for me and bring it down. Grrrrrrrr.

HOW IS SHIPPING MORE THAN THE ACTUAL ITEM!?! THAT'S ABSURD!!! And in that case you might as well go for the more expensive dresser!!

Yeah, I learned years ago that having stuff shipped from Ikea is pretty pointless. You may as well purchase a higher quality item somewhere else.

I think I'm just going to try and find one in consignment. I usually have good luck that way.

Ikea's shipping is ridiculous.  I don't understand where they get their rates from.

Yep. I bought a bookcase from them a few years ago and the shipping was more than the actual item! And then on top of all that, you have to put the damn thing together yourself and it is usually a HUGE pain.

Right?!  We bought a bunch of stuff from Ikea for DD's room and our living room, and it was actually cheaper for my husband to drive the 2 hours to the closest store than it was to ship everything to our house.  Crazy!

right now my closet IKEA is about 5 hours away, so sadly i can't justify going (not like i could fit much in my car anyway).

i dream that someday i will live close to an IKEA, so i can have all the low-budget swedish goods my little heart desires.
(i'm moving in July, but i don't know where yet. maybe i'll get lucky!)

That's how they get ya'.  They want you to come to the store. We got our dresser for the baby at Ikea. The closest one is in suburban Chicago, so we went on our way home to WI from MI. It was worth the trip, but certainly not the shipping.

Yeah, online orders from IKEA really aren't their bread and butter, and they don't even sell most of their stuff online. BUT, you might see if anyone in your city is running a side gig going to the nearest IKEA and bringing things back for people. My sis lives in Nashville and says there is a guy who goes to the Atlanta IKEA and brings things back for a fee much smaller fee than IKEA's delivery costs.

IKEA is notoriously ridiculous for their shipping costs. I wanted to order something from there and it cost more then the actual item itself. We called and asked the store (1.5 hours away) if they had it in stock and would hold it until they got there. They said they had it, but they will not do holds and since it is a popular item it may or may not be there when we get there. Ridiculous. I was not willing to drive that far for something they may or may not have when we get there.
