? for those who have had mastitis

I was diagnosed yesterday over the phone by OB's nurse and started antibiotics at noon yesterday.  It's been almost 24 hours with antibiotics, and while I feel a TON better (also thanks to Ibuprofin, I'm sure), the skin on my breast is still blotchy red and warm to the touch.

If you've had mastitis, do you remember when these symptoms started going away?  I feel like I've heard that anitbiotics need at LEAST 24 hours to start kicking in, so maybe I just need to give it more time?  I just don't want things to get worse, especially since the weekend is coming up and I won't be able to call the OB office tomorrow or Sunday.

Thanks!

Re: ? for those who have had mastitis

  • Yeah, when I had mastitis, the flu-like symptoms cleared up really fast after starting the antibiotics, but the clogged duct that caused the mastitis in the first place took a little longer to clear up. A couple days, I think.

Ok, good, sounds like I'm on track then--thank you!

  • I've had it twice now (ugh!!!)...  For me it's taken a few/several days for things to initially clear, this past time the tylenol hasn't gotten far away even though I'm still on the antibiotics...  A lot depends on what bacteria you're fighting too...
